Mech box from scratch - Best options
Looking to borrow some experience and options with this request.
In a nut shell I have a V1 JG mechbox in a fixer upper M16 that I bought, I am turning it into a C7, got the Guarder C8 metal body on and the King Arms Rear stock should be here any day now. Time to tackle the mechbox, it works but it is cracked and needs replacing. I've done all the research I'm ready to tackle building my first mechbox. the issue that I'm having is that there are 1000 and 1 options for mechbox shell, V1, V2, etc... and who know's how many springs, nozzles and guides. I'm looking to pick the brain of people that have build, fixed or in general been around mechboxes for a while to see what is the best option parts wise. I know that there are alot of options such as personal taste and what I want my C7 to do so I will try my best to explain. I need the C7: To be tough part wise, parts that will not die after 1000 rounds and have a proven track record. To fire in an outdoor setting, 350 to 400 FPS is fine ROF not important Mechbox to fit a Guarder C8 Metal body, wired to the rear I've found a great image that I "borrowed" for educational purposes that shows all the parts I think are needed in a mechbox. If you could please add your suggested part and if possible a link to a supplier such as the UN Company, Redwolf, etc... The suggested supplier is not to endorse one supplier over another but really to to get details on the part. Please use this format if possible and naturally it would be great if all the parts work together. 1: Mech box - To fit all the below parts 2: Motor - To drive all the below parts A: Spring Guide - Quality manufacture, part does not wear out http://www.uncompany.com/pageproduct...sp?prodid=3801 B: Spring C: Piston D: Cylinder E: Cylinder Head F: Air Nozzle G: Tappet Plate H: Trigger Switch I1: Sector Gear I2: Spur Gear I3: Bevel Gear J: Non-Return Latch Or is it better to say screw it and just get a complete upgrade kit http://www.uncompany.com/pageproduct...sp?prodid=8926 And any other insight that can be offered would be greatly appricated and hopefully this part's list will help out other members in picking the correct part for their upgrades and understanding the parts a little better. Thanks ahead of time for your help with this little project of mine. Original website for diagram (http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/?filn...atisanaeg.html) |

Go to Airsoft Parts Canada and get a Systema M120 gearbox and a Systema Magnum motor. Done.

I do believe you would need a long type... however, trust me from personal experience, just go for a prebuilt gearbox, it is so much cheaper. I have spent about $4-500 building one from scratch; it's fun, but expensive.
As for the gearbox, I'd say Systema; they're pretty much the best in the business.

I think you got it all...but do yourself a huge favour and buy your stuff through Jugglez (airsoftparts.ca). Let him know what you're doing and what you want to end up with. He'll make sure that you aren't missing something.

Avoid the King Arms mechbox with a 10ft pole.
Their externals are ok considering their price, but their internals are shit. Bad quality control, constant issues with tolerances as well as famous for their incompatability issues and poor material choices. Avoid mixing and matching brands, If your gonna go systema for example, go completely systema and use a systema box as guarder parts for example (Piston, spring guide etc dont fit inside a systema box without considerable modification)

Great feedback so far, no worries about Jugglez, he usually gets my money anyway :-)

Mechbox - Stock TM
Internals - Modify FTK (idiot-proof install): http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...oducts_id=1060 Spring: Replace Modify 110 with Modify 100 - still about 370 FPS, but much easier on your mechbox shell. http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...roducts_id=885 Sorbo pad: http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...oducts_id=1023 Motor: G&P M140 High Torque or M160 Supercharger - I have both, as well as 2 G&P M120 High Speed - vastly underrated motors, excellent for the price. http://www.wgcshop.com/pcart/shopper...684_srch_motor http://www.wgcshop.com/pcart/shopper...562_srch_motor Stock TM switch assembly rewired with Triggermaster MOS-FET: http://unconventional-airsoft.com/20...control-units/ Total build price, about $275. Not bad considering a Systema pre-built will run you $30 less without a MOS-FET and motor....

Now a days Im pro Modify internals, good quality materials with good QC. Atleast from my experience thus far I havent had any issues, yet. Essentially any info I have to offer has already been suggested. And to to add onto what to Skruface said a stock TM mechbox would be what I would choose too. They are actually fairly sturdy, its when you mish mash parts and put crazy springs in is when you begin to see problems and breakages and what not. I have a TM V2 mechbox that has been in use for 4 years hasnt shown any signs of stress or fracture. Reenforced mechboxes are not invincible they just take a little longer to break than usual. +1 to G&P motors But personally for myself I find TM Eg1000s work well too, A: Modify or Systema, Modifys are nice and made with strong materials but the systema v2 spring guide has been a tried tested and true item and has been in use for a fair while. B: Modify, Great springs, very flexable and will stay consistant over 10s of thousands of shots. C: Modify or Prometheus, both are good quality pistons, I personally prefer the prometheus piston D: Modify E: Modify (no real reason for these two, just attempting to stick to one company, as it has been noted when you mish mash to many companies parts you can begin to have issues) F: Deep fire ( No reason really, just cause its shiny and gold and looks nice, havent had any issues with it either) G: Stock TM H: Stock TM (I chose stock TM for both because these parts dont have to be fancy, they just have to work and they work very well) I1: Modify or Prometheus I2: Modify or Prometheus I3: Modify or Prometheus (With those gears, if you choose modify you can have either or the straight drop in or the regular modify gears. If you use a stock TM mechbox you will have no issues with the drop in preassembled set. Unfortunetly I do not recall if you will with what other brands of mechboxes) J: Modify, great quality steel latch with an e-ring that prevents it from popping out. Also its notched so you can engage and release your piston without opening your mechbox.

I've installed a few King Arms reinforced V2 mechboxes and they are a joy to work with, especially for the price. Deep Fire.................... no thanks, too many problems.
