advice for EBR scope?

I'm looking at the 4x acog with the Doc on top , for a 'standard' EBR M14

I only ask opinion/advice as I've read in my searchs that the acog isn't that great on eye relief .. but I assume that's on fast target aquisition (aka the Doc on top) ... but it should do me right when hunkering down and sighting in targets. am I off in my asumption?

later down the road the ebr is slated for further mods to 400+ and semi auto only total DMR/anti sniper etc etc ... so I only want to buy one scope for it

Try out the Acog from someone you know. It all depends on your play style. 99% of the time when playing airsoft, you won't even have your eye in the Doctor sight. You would be looking in that Acog.

I saw EOTechs a few times on RS EBRs, often with a magnifier. I personally love my 552+FTS 3X.

ACOG replicas comme in a lot of different flavours... if you can, I'd suggest you have a look at Huang's store to see some of them with your own eyes.

Try to trust me this time. After use most of the airsoft optic, None of them really work for me from ACOG, Aimpoint to Eotech clone.

From my suggestion, I would suggest you to use Iron Sight in Combat than optic or maybe get those optic for show or wall hanger. They are good for show than useful in the game. The only thing work pretty good is Iron sight. I trust my iron sight than those optic.

If you plan on getting optic, save money get a real one then you won't regret.

Real Steel Eotech is not that much expensive in Canada, it would just only range from 500 to 600 $ but they are really worst or get a RDS from wall-mart, they made for real steel and it's damn cheap and work quite well but not give a quite good look for those clone optic.

I have been checking out his sales thread and supplier, it's where I've been drawn to the acog with the Doc on top.

honestly for fast target aquisition I have no issues with iron sights. but I've been caught quite I few times wishing I had some form of magnification ...

4x's is a bit over kill I know .. but the high mounted doc should be nice too

I don't use magnification for aiming, but it's great for target aquisition. You know those moments... "that stump across that clearing kinda looks like a helmet..."

Red dots or equivalent are awesome though, you only need to line up two things, dot + target, vs three things, rear iron + front iron + target. I think that's why 99% of the real guys use them these days.

I friggen love Reflex sights. Magnified optics are not really useful for airsoft.

But I really have to put this one out there, get your rifle shooting accurate and consistant enough before even thinking about using an optic. Especially if you are going to spend alot of money on it.

I have one of Huang's ACOGs, its not bad but as you already know the eye relief isn't great.

If you care about realism, the red dot usually issued with the M14 EBR is the M68 CCO (Aimpoint CompM4). Otherwise a variable power scope is usually seen mounted: the Schmidt & Bender M8541 (AKA USMC Scout Sniper Day Scope) or similar is often seen. It's a 3x12 power scope. The 3-5x range is handy for airsoft.

Never really seen an ACOG on an EBR, and it just seems like a poor choice (and the real one was designed for use with 5.56x45). If all you wanted was the ability to mount the Docter Sight on top of it, they have rings with a secondary rail you use.

You could also throw on an EOTech clone, but personally (if you're going to use the clone rather than a real holosight) I prefer the Aimpoints.

An ACOG will NOT fit on to an EBR. There is no rail mount close enough to the shooter that would accommodate an Acog.

Look at where the closest available rail real estate is that could accommodate an ACOG. The ACOG eye relief is no more than 2 inches.

The only way you can get your eye close enough to the ACOG is if you hunker down with your cheek up against the ejection port, and I guarantee you that won't be a comfortable position.

Well, technically he could use a QD riser or mount base to span the section over the ejection port, but it would look pretty wonky.

Setup like yours [Illusion's] is much more elegant and realistic.

yeah without some funky rail add ons I'm pretty sure I'm boned with the exception of a full proper scope with a rds add on...

I was thinking maybe a reflex rds with a flip up 3x aimpoint but I think I'm in the same boat with the eye relief.... I think I'll just stick with an RDS reflex for now and see what kinda sighting I really need with more game time on the ebr

found a 4x scope I really liked over the weekend... lil over 2inchs away it's a really nice clear picture. and held away from the face like one would loosely panning to aquire a target looking past or through where the iron sights would be I still get about 1/3 of the scoped vision in my field of view ... more importantly I can still put the cross hairs on something without being shouldered right in and hunkered up to the scope.


thank you all for your input. definately doing some shooting to zero in my hop up and such before the scope gets perm mounted and set for game time.
