I doubt that RS weapons would have their Serial number on a sticker. It's a neat concept tho, however I would rather print my own on better media.

I'm sure they are not a sticker in the sense where you and I can print our own at home - but a more permanent adhesive label.

Qlong - Do you have the graphic for the AR series? I would love to try my own version...

These are not serial numbers. They are barcodes (similar to QR codes) for use at the armory, AFAIK pretty much the same as the painted numbers actually. Yes, the real ones are stickers too.

So yes you are correct.

One guy over at Wannabe got them on his gun.

For anyone wanting more information:

MIL-STD-130N (NOV 2009) is the latest specification for the DoD implementation of UID and IUID using Data Matrix ECC200, and replaced previous standards: MIL-STD-130 (2004) / MIL STD 130M (2005). 130N is available online in PDF form if anyone wants some light bedtime reading.

NSWC Crane had a previous program in place to inventory weapons and other so-called "controlled" items, but it was short-lived and replaced by IUID. I recall there are some photos online of SEAL pistols with the the older spec system visible.

Hi TALIBANMILAN,
Every 'controlled' item in the armoury will have the labels affixed. In the photo series I have, there are various H&K guns marked, to include several models of the MP5SD subgun.

What's more unusual is the anachronism of seeing these high-tech markings on well-worn AK's or M79 launchers.

Guys, the Spartan stickers are off.

US DoD uses the DataMatrix standard. The ones from Spartan are made from the QR Code symbology. Similar to, but a competitor, of DataMatrix, and inacurate for US DoD inventory.

Watch the RS pics closely, you won't see the squares in the 3 corners.

Since my job involves dealing with lotsa different barcode symbologies and laser scanners to read them, I could'nt help but notice the error with their "data matix" sheet.

Quote:
The US Department of Defense has selected Data Matrix for the mandatory unique identification of certain assets it procures for all of the services. Items from individual weapons to critical components of major systems must be permanently marked with a unique data matrix code in accordance with standards in Military Standard 130. Much of the Aerospace Industry, especially members of the Air Transport Association (ATA), aims to have all components of every new aircraft identified by Data Matrix codes within a tight deadline.[2]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QR_Code

Quote:
A QR Code is a specific matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code), readable by dedicated QR barcode readers and camera phones. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded can be text, URL or other data.
Common in Japan, where it was created by Toyota subsidiary Denso-Wave in 1994, the QR code is one of the most popular types of two-dimensional barcodes. QR is the abbreviation for Quick Response, as the creator intended the code to allow its contents to be decoded at high speed.[1]
