Lightfighter R.A.I.D. Pack

Anyone have this bag? I'm thinking of getting it. Seems really nice. I'll be using it in the Army and for personal use if I get it. If someone does have it. Does it fit a laptop with room for more stuff? 16.5W 11.5H 1.5D is my laptop

First of all we’ve got to have some gear porn

That is a Eagle A-III MOLLE in Khaki on the left, and a LF RAID pack in OD on the right. They are both great packs, and I enjoy them both immensely, it just depends on what you want to do with your pack. The A-III is great for use as a book bag because it has a main compartment, a smaller compartment, and a zippered pocket at the front that lets you carry all sorts of stuff. The only pouches that I have attached to it are a Paraclete small GP pouch and a small Maxpedition Mini Rollypoly because I tend to carry less things in the A-III.

The RAID on the other hand, has a LOT of PALS channels on it, so you can load it up to your heart’s content. I have two Paraclete upright GP pouches on it, as well as a Kifaru Malice Claymore pouch and a Paraclete Med/fire system on it. Even with all these pockets I find that I tend to run out of room because I carry a lot of stuff when I go out into the field. (I mean field in a forensic anthropology context, I’m not in the military, nor do I claim to be) I find the two mesh pockets on the inside to be pretty useful, but they’re pretty hard to get to when your bag is fully loaded. My favourite feature of the RAID pack is the Velcro slot pocket behind the top mesh pocket, it’s really great for putting maps, a compass, or anything else that’s small or that you would want quick access to.

Both packs are extremely well built, but I’d have to say Eagle has no comparison when it comes to the quality of their packs, the build quality of the A-III is superb. RAID packs used to be manufactured by Eagle, but Lightfighter has since switched to TAG, the build quality is still great, but it is not a good as when Eagle built the packs.

So if you want something that will work better in the field, get the RAID pack, but if you want something that will work better as a book bag, get the A-III. Another consideration is the time that it will take for the packs to get here. When I ordered the A-III, it arrived at my house within 2 weeks. The RAID on the other hand, took close to 8 months from the time that I ordered it to when I finally received it, the wait times have apparently improved, but I would still expect to wait a couple of months before you will receive the pack.

In conclusion, if you need something right away, get the A-III, it’s a great pack that will serve you well, but if you want something that will make you look like a DeltaSEALRangerMegaforceNinjaSuperSquirrel, and will turn heads everywhere you go, the RAID pack is the way to go, just don’t hold your breath for it to arrive. :-)

I have the Spec-Ops Brand T.H.E. pack and it's fucking AWESOME. I loaded it up with about 50 pounds of stuff and was swinging it around over my head in my living room. The strapping never even gave a creak. This thing is bombproof. Lots of PALS/MOLLE channels and a waterproof compartment, too. It can hold a camelback bladder or whatever hydration bladder you have. It has no internal support, but it fit real well even when loaded with awkward stuff (like 10 X 2litre bottles). Definitely look into one of these.

For the money, you can't go wrong with the RAID. I "third" the suggestion on getting the frame sheet!

The only thing is they are on high demand and it might take a while for you to get one brand new from LF. There are some used popping up every now and then on LF.net but you need 50 post counts to use the EE forum.

Other considerations are the Eagle Molle A-III, the TAG 3 days pack and the Kifaru Marauder (more expensive alternative)

my contribution; RAID with eagle side pouches and Kifaru E&E

nice packs. But I still want the R.A.I.D =)

Didn't LF give discounts to soldiers at one point? There is also a first come first serve for the bag. So if a civy is in front of you and your in the Army and need the bag ASAP your screwed.

This is a bit off topic...

That's the incorrect mentality. Brad at LF told me people bitch about things not in stock because they always get them last minute. If you are prepared, you get onto the list now and wait for it to happen. Same goes with every other gear!

I guess if you are using the gear for airsoft only there is no rush. But wait till the last minute to get things that matter is just bad juju.

Gentlemen,

The demand for REAL tactical equipment from established suppliers since 911 has been huge. All of us in the industry are working at full speed to satisfy the demand. Long waits for good quality gear is just the way it is right now.

A perfect analogy would be the house building trades in Alberta with our overheated economy:

Would you have your house re - roofed by a roofer that can do it right a way?
The question begs to be asked why is he not busy?

Kind Regards
Brian Kroon
