Teaching the new generation of airsofters
Help the new guys out, don't look down on them. Maybe they think you're hot shit and want to be as -operator- as you one day. Don't shit on their parade.
My favourite piece is the topic of forum junkies saying "google/search button bro". If you don't know the answer to the question a guy/gal is asking then shut the fuck up and don't post in the thread. Full stop. ASC is FULL of this shit and it has to end. Let's make a positive move forward for our beloved sport/hobby/whatever it means to you.

I actually found the community really helpful.
although I would do my research first, and if I don't understand it, then I will ask. this worked out pretty well for me so far, nobody yet criticized me for asking anything yet. But I do know sorta what you are talking about. Some guys seems to be way to deep in their belief and us as new players might not understand. But they have more experience so I usually just take it with a grain of salt and research the methods or stuff they suggest. TBH, the "google" reply is everywhere, this is not the only place it happens. I usually would include a keyword to search for to people if I was going to give them that "go google it" comment, because I'm lazy and many others are too lol..

We've got the same rule on the fb page.
Either put up a google link if it's a really obvious answer Answer their question or don't comment Just don't want this forum or the fb page to turn into the systema forum with us having to walk people through motor problems 9 times a week as opposed to just posting up a freaking FAQ |

What we really need to do is teach the new generation of airsofters and people in general to do a basic search instead of expecting spoon feeding at every corner.

The FAQ and other posts are cluttering ASC forums IMO.
Needs cleaning scare noobs from reading. 2007-2009 some are applicable in 2015 but some are dated. Last edited by BioRage; June 14th, 2015 at 18:10.. |

Don't wanna be a dick here, but when I joined ASC, I read tons before asking obvious shit. I'm All-In at 100% with teaching the newcomers instead of blasting them, but I won't help someone who doesn't want to help himself AKA not reading shit at all.
I learned all I know today basically from ASC, going to games and asking the right questions.

No offence but someone that is incapable of basic research would not benefit the community much. Absolutely every general newbie question has been answered somewhere and lies only 2-3 min of googling away. For the more specific or advanced questions I've yet to see someone saying "google it"

Totally agreed. We explain the same 5 things on the ptw fb page multiple times a week:
-how to test for a blown winding -blinking light on ecu; usually motor problem -how to set motor height -how to check your motor brushes -why mags aren't feeding properly With a simple search on that fb page, you'd easily come up with 2 dozen other threads in which every conceivable failure and fix and happened. As opposed to us wasting our time constantly repeating the same thing over and over. It's nice just to have a writeup. Especially like the physics writeup I did, makes things so much easier. |

I didn't want to say it but Leth1337 was starting to sound like Greylocks in that post.
Definitely go to a game and meet people face to face for best results.

I'm still relatively new in terms of know-how. As said, I've learned most of what I know from reading through tons of threads here on the forums and asking questions in person. I couldn't count the number of times people have "google it bro"-d people, but all the same, that's usually the underage 15 year olds asking which M4 is the best, or where to get a cheap AK.
Generally speaking, the community is accepting and friendly, once you get used to doing a bit of your own research before asking. We know our shit, and will help you learn it too. Beyond reading, there are some things just plain better said/explained in person. You can't learn as much about disassembly/cleaning/modding your gear and guns through pictures and forum posts as you can having someone actually takedown their gun and show you right there in front of you. We've all been there.
