Sling through vest shoulder strap webbing?

I was just wondering if anyone ever put their slings through a MOLLE loop on the top of their shoulder strap? In theory it would keep the sling from sliding into your neck (the Vickers starts to hurt pretty quickly without a collar), but of course then you lose the ability to take it off. Just trying to figure out whether it's worth trying or if I should just keep wearing polo shirts.

Of course I'll try it for a bit at the next game, but maybe someone with more experience already has a better suggestion.

Any input would be appreciated

Not sure what weapon you have or how you're using the sling; unless you "drop" the weapon there shouldn't be any tension on the sling for it to drive into your neck. Unless you're using an LMG, then get an appropriate sling for it.

I'm running an SG550 with a two-point Vickers. I attach the rear of my sling to the 'mid' attachment point (under the rear sight), so I wonder if maybe even just moving it back to the point in the stock would help.

The movement happens when I lower the gun in cover/for rounding tight corners, and of course when I've 'dropped' it. When shouldered it's fine though

What got me thinking is when I enter a building and want to switch to my secondary (it's a metre long and 4kg) I don't want it digging into my neck.

One idea that popped into my head while writing this reply is a small carabiner to hold it with the MOLLE while still making it easy enough to take off

If you have a hydration pack, run your sling through it

If you want to run a sling trough the shoulder pads, you need a sling that is designed to do it. It turn your sling into a one point attachement.

I would not run a standard 2 points into the shoulders pads, as it will prevent you to manuver with your rifle.

Silly question,

how do these off the shoulder strap sling setups balance the weight of the weapon so that your load bearing kit isnt pulling to one side?

People who like a secure hold that doesn't flop around?

I have a one-point for CQB, but I hate it.

2 points are more confortable and practical for long patrols and fights.
1 points are good for CQB and short time dynamic work.

anything tied to you needs to have a quick disconnect. can't see how that would be possible feeding a 2 point through a Molle loop.

The proper solution to an uncomfortable sling is to throw away your laptop case shoulder strap that you have been making due with and buy a real sling.

also.. if the sling is biting into your neck try wearing more than a T shirt, a BDU with a collar will eliminate a lot of these issues.

in short, buy proper gear.. and it will work properly.

QD makes sense. Is a Vickers not a 'real' sling by your standards? I've heard nothing but praise here for anything BFG...

As for a BDU, I have a proper one (original Bundeswehr surplus), but I've been sticking to polo shirts because of the guys I play with.

I'd not even considered this, but I'll have to give it a try. I hate my MS2.
Do you just take the sling off (your body) for shooting left?

Vickers is good gear.. lots of guys run crap slings and then complain about how they work.

I have several different slings.. I'll select which one depending on what platform I am running and what I expect to be doing.

I prefer MS3 for CQB because to gives me the single point and 2 point versatility. in the field I run a 2 point unless I am running the MP7 , which I always run on a single point MS2.

of course now that I'm doing a lot of WWII events.. it's all 2 point.. leather slings.

Why use the MS2 if you have the 3?

Or maybe I just don't like mine because its meant for smaller stuff...

2 point slings work in CQB, and I'm sure some people like 1 points for patrolling, etc; it just comes down to personal preference.
As in tac shooting or quick engagement where you can rest after (Skirmish). That way, the rifle is not in your hands or hagning on your neck all day long.

I find a 2 point sling more confortable as you can put it on your shoulder and not always on your neck. Find me a stand-alone quick detach one point that don't touch my neck and I'll trow a fistfull of money at you. (o:

Sure it's down to personal preferance. These are mine.

I run my sling, modified 1 point bungee, through my right shoulder strap, and down to a custom attach mod on a molle loop on the back of my weesatch. I found that if you attach it at the shoulder, and sling the weapon, it really puts a ton of extra pressure right on your shoulder. But making the attach point lower on my back, spreads the weight out nicely when the gun is down. The bungee part, takes away any direct weight nicely.

It also has a QD point for when I need to go prone to fire.

My way is always find out what works, and customize it to whats comfortable for you, may not work for others, but if it works for you, thats all that matters.

Only way to know for sure, is try it.
