not so sure about the barrel in the sand. for the mags (Alot of you will HATE this idea) but if you run a high cap say you get like a 600 round high cap for an ak you dont need to bring any other mags in with you. just a suggestion lol. This would also eliminate the need for a dump pouch, i know most of you guys like the realism and all so like i said, just a suggestion.

Also, maybe try compressed air and try not to blow the dirt deeper into the mag! :P Just a couple ideas I had.

and it goes Kshhh kshh whenever you move, you get to crank a stupid wheel instead of having the pleasure of reloading with magazines that work by themselves...

and this isn't a solution to sand really, more like a cowardly way out.

My hi-capa consistently gets filled with sand grit every time I play FR. it's terrible. sand in the trigger, sand between inner/outer barrels, sand everywhere! going prone in the dirt + crawling around + dropleg = recipe for disaster. I have resorted to carry a bottle of duster to games and cleaning between rounds, and then religiously stripping and cleaning everything when I get home. It's a nice little pre and post game ritual... pregame = charge, load, prep. postgame = strip, clean, clean, clean.

the duster seems to be pretty effective on game day. i will stop using my capa on game day if it the cycling feels rough due to grit (and the duster is not cleaning it out).

so far, my mags are mostly clean. chest rig gets turned upside down and shaken out before i pack up for the day.

I vote duster in safe zone + brush on rig

this way you'll be pretty safe.

definitely packing duster for between game reloads/rekit...need to figure out something dummy-proof while in-game.

The worst is when you drop or get sand into the fill valves. You would need some sort of high pressure air blower to blow it out. lol

I put my mags up side down in the mag pouch, keeps sand and crap away from the feed lips/nozzle.
Work pretty well at the last Rawdon game. My M249, well that was hell to clean out. Sand was everywhere. In the box mag, mechbox everywhere.

So basically...you can try to keep yourself out of the mess...you can try to brush them off/keep them sorted/clean them when you can...

...but basically you're SNAFU'd anyways and are left with just hoping that it'll hold up long to get you through.

Bummer...

wonder what Chris Costa does...

This remind me that I must buy a small brush to trap to my Molle vest.
I'll just buy a small paint brush that will fit on my vest.
I've seen a lot of soldiers do this.

Perhaps add a small foam spacer to raise your feed lips clear of the bottom of the pouches?

Image is not to scale. You'll likely find a spacer shape more optimal than the basic rectangle depicted above (i.e. spacer should not block drainage hole).

Maybe instead of a block, I'd just use a small-ish rubber super ball (the kids have tons of them).
