Winter loadouts

I don't really see many snow camo threads, so I thought this would be applicable to ASC. These are two of my winter load outs that I got out of the closet today (since we had our first snow--an entire 2 inches!)

This is the Arktis Tundra with an old LBV from the Air Force. I usually run light with a warm winter loadout, and might just end up with a battle belt and suspenders. You can't see it but I'm also wearing a combat shirt in the same pattern.

This is Defcon5 winter Vegetato and I'm wearing their Multiland plate carrier simply because I wanted to see how it would look. This is worn over long underwear and is closer to a uniform than the military over-whites.

The Arktis is a fabric material while the Vegetato is a heavy nylon weave, almost like a rain coat but softer. Arktis is pricey and made in the UK--and the pattern is mostly restricted to military and LE. The Defcon5 is made in China. Most of their uniform items are made in Pakistan, but a lot of their gear (such as the PC) are made in China. They are very good quality, however. Both have gaiter style pant legs, and the Defcon5 actually zip the entire way up the pant leg.

I don't know if there are Arktis or Defcon5 dealers in Canada, but there are several in Europe.

For winter loadouts I wear a pair of Columbia Titanium insulated boots, which are a hiking boot style and fit well under the gaiter pant legs. I also have a Gentex SOHAH helmet with a plain white cover if I wanted to do a helmet with the loadout.

Nice.. Hard to find winter camo at any surplus stores.. They don't really carry it, or well at least i have never seen it in any stored here in Toronto.. Save More, Central and AAA (Armynavydeals) They don't have it so i am just going to use prob either multi, urban or plain white... I have a white brimmed tuque though. A White and Black Shemagh to cover my face..

That three hole bala is cool i wouldn't wear one though id rather cover my whole face...

Its not impossible to find. I stopped by Crown Surplus for something the other day and they had a few CF style winter suits and a German Mountain trooper snow suit top. I ordered a German Mountain Trooper snowsuit from the UK a while back. Its a little big for me, but great under a good coat.

I like the two patterns that you have. Their definitely different from anything ive seen before.

Army Issue had like 20 of them during Airsoft Con a couple years back. I would imagine he has a few in stock.

Telling you i've walked into all of them didn't find nothing.. I think for the most part they don't carry it cause it just costs more and it usually sits around. I remember when i walked into Save More and asked for fleck they weren't importing it anymore cause of the euro and some other ish... They always talk to me when i am in there.. Maybe cause i'm a frequent buyer lol... Same with Central nick is always talking to me cause i'm in there a lll the time.. I haven't checked barrie though

costs more?

They are dirt cheap, and half of them are trying to get rid of em.
CF Winter Whites are a fraction of what BDU's cost.

Talk to jeroon... And ask for Winter Whites Pants.... and a shirt to go along with it.

If money is really an issue, just pick up a painters suit at Canadian Tire for 8 bucks, its a one time use, but they work really well.

Painter's suit: 8$ for one time (will actually be ruined after about 1 hour, or less if you're not afraid to crawl)

CF white oversuit: between 30 to 40$ for unlimited uses

So... considering it still has some resale value, after 3 uses it's worth it. Get CF whites (or german ponchos).

To put things into perspective, the Tundra including smock, pants, and combat shirt, would retail for somewhere around $550 to $650 USD, but it is restricted to military and LE by Arktis. The Vegetato pants and shirt are $170 USD. Both are actual uniforms rather than oversuits that are wind/waterproof. They don't get water logged and the Tundra is more fabric in texture, so it doesn't make a "swish swish" like a snowsuit would. The Vegetato is more of a snowsuit type of weave.

So if you are on a budget, $30 CAD is a great deal.

Knowing what combination to wear and where to wear it is 90% of winter camo. It's much more complicated than just throwing on the top and bottoms..Just for instance if you are in a wooded area you should just wear the white bottoms and not the top leaving the top green/camo etc.
