Airsoft and insurance

What happens if someone breaks into your house and steals airsoft guns? Is it covered by insurance? Can you file a claim for the guns even if they are in a legal grey zone?

Are you supposed to specifically warn the police about the missing guns?

I keep mine in a locked, electrified gun cabinet wrapped in razor wire, surrounded by carpet tacs. Problem solved.

All joking aside, it may be something you want to ask your insurance company. Good question, I find myself curious now as well.

Don't be a cheap bastard. Buy a real-deal gun safe, bolt it to the framing of your house, and you won't have anything to worry about. Another good solution (if you can afford the space and cash) is to make a gun room. I built one a few years ago. Double-thick concrete-board for the walls inside and out (it's the same concrete board they use for bathrooms, just use 2 layers), no exterior windows, and a fire-rated steel safety door with deadbolt. You'd need a couple of hours with a sledgehammer and/or a sawzall to get in there.

I find that my two dogs are also an effective theft deterrent. When we had the third one, now one could get within 6' of our house in any direction without us knowing, and If the person wasn't with us i dogs made sure they entered no further and that front door Now that its 2 they jsut bark, and if the bugger does get inside they will constantly get in his way. Plus i keep by bow in its case next to my bed and have it set up for easy access and retrieval.

Some homeowner's insurance explicitly excludes firearm coverage. As long as you can convince the insurance company that airsoft guns are not firearms, then you should be good.

But unless you have a ton of cash and a good legal team, you'd never have their decision overturned if they decide not to insure airsoft because they are in-fact firearms (just not for the purposes of certain legislation).

But do keep the locked up, in a safe or room, and not on your kitchen table or living room couch.

You should check your individual policy for homeowners' or content insurance, but in most cases firearms and related equipment (such as airguns and airsoft) will be covered by general content insurance. Specific exclusions may be included in the policy as per a specific plan, and there may also be some exclusions for "sporting equipment", depending on what you own.

Reimbursement of a claim or damaged or stolen firearms and related equipment will generally depend on a test of being able to show that the firearms and related equipment were lawfully stored and possessed i.e., not damaged or stolen due to negligence.

Exactly what Kedirkin said.

My old house insurance had my firearms written into it since we rented.

My new insurance since we bought a house covers it up to a certain amount. I assume we would have to prove the value in some way if something ever happened.

If you live with your folks or someone else chance are they will not be covered.
