need help on installing handguard for m14

hey guys Im really new to airsoft so just bear with me. I got a echo 1 m14 socom synthetic stock. I bought a aluminium handguard for it, comes with a rail, 2 fixtures that attach to the barrel, and there is four screws on the rail that screw into the fixtures 2 each. When I went to finish installing it by screwing in those 4 screws they would just sit there ( not screwing in ) I took the rail off and noticed in the fixtures that the threading is at the bottom of the fixture and not at the top so once the rail is in place and as you go to put the screws in they just sit inside the fixture with out having to screw it in.

any suggestions on what to do or if you had this problem what did you do to fix it?

I agree with pesto, pics would be much appreciated. All I can say is if you bought a RAS rail kit, it only actually screws into 1 place on the body of the receiver and another goes into a bracket which goes onto the barrel.
Like so:

Then the front simple tucks into a lip at the front of the stock.
