KJW 1911 Magazine Eject

I had posted about this problem previously in one of the Les Baer threads and someone had suggested that I tweak the screw in the trigger to resolve it, however it did not work.

I've got a Les Baer 1911, everything functions smoothly except for ejecting the magazine with the slide locked back. The mag will release and drop freely with the slide in battery as well as with the slide partially pulled back. However, when the slide is locked back, depressing the mag release will result in no movement whatsoever.

I just did a take down and attempted to troubleshoot it by testing the mag release with each part I added back to the slide. Everything works fine until I place the spring (part 29) in the slide.

I had no problems with mag release with the slide locked back with every part installed except for part 29. This includes having parts 30 and 31 installed in the slide without the spring.

This has led me to believe that the issue has to do with the spring pushing the barrel assembly against the magazine, however I am not confident enough in this to start shaving away anything.

Any 1911 experts able to shed some insight?

Thanks

Had the same problems with my KJW MEU, and then my Les Baer Recon. Eventually the problem went away.

Did you notice any out of the ordinary wear on your mags?

I would assume that when the slide is locked back, its shifting something, possibly the hopup chamber, slightly backwards and is pushing on the mag, check for marks on the front of the feed lips

I did, nothing has shown up yet except for on the right side of the feed lips which I know is from the mag catch

On a side note, I just noticed that if the slide is locked back and I pull forward on the outer barrel, the mag will drop freely when released.

Try pulling out and putting in the mag a cpl times with the slide locked back see how much resistance there is look in the chamber see if anything iz getting tugged on when pullin the mag.
Maybe youll get lucky and cause a lil wear on what is catching and see wherd to adjust if the issue doesnt resolve by the few times u pull out and reinsert.

I've been trying this ever since I bought it months ago to no avail.

I think I found what was wrong by accident...seems like the feed ramp is ever so slightly pressing against the feed lips. I'll try polishing the feed ramp a bit and see how it goes.

When I first got my Les Baer it was hard to insert the mags and they would hang up when ejecting them, try loosening off the trigger grub screw. I did that and problem was solved, I think someone got a little carried away when tightening it and the trigger bar was interfering with the magazines.

Same problem on the MEU. Just work it, after a while it slides out without issue. Never seemed to have a problem because of it.

Problem solved.

A couple seconds with the dremel to flatten the surface and round off the edges a bit and the mag drops like butter.

as long as you didnt mess up the loading ramp and it still feeds properly, you should be golden then
