If you are serious about realism, you will want all metal parts. Sure its not indestructable but it sure it a hell of alot stonger than plastic plus the general coolnes factor. Also, you will stand out as more of an independant airsofter if you choose another brand besides TM. Sure TM has good quality, but go read the reviews posted around the internet on other brands such as G&P, Classic Army and ICS. Chances are, if you read 5 good reviews on the gun, and they were writen on a current version, then the gun is indeed worth buying. Going with TM is like buying a car that works perfectly but isn't painted, has no radio or CD player and just generally has no excessories that you will want. Sure you don't need them to be functional, but they sure make the experience more pleasurable.

Anyways like I said, do your own research on a gun, if it sounds sweet and most importantly, sweet to you, then go with it.

Generalizing is usually not a good idea.

My friend has a G&P M4A1 with a reinforced gearbox... It hasn't broken down yet and from my testing... its quite a sturdy rifle. The only problem is that its too powerful out of the box.

I think they have fixed that, IIRC it was a first Gen/Run problem only, although their Hop ups are still finicky.

I have owned a tm m4a1 and i now have a g&p m4a1 and i have to tell you there will be no going back to tm after owning the g&p.
The g&p has a reinforced mech with ball bearing bushings and a metal one piece hopup plus you have to see the reinforced gears makes tm gears look like a joke and sure some of them have a few problems with feeding bbs and some have had a few issues with tappet plates mine had a little problem with the electronics but for the experienced airsofter that is minor stuff and not really any concern. A couple of minutes with some tools can remedy but if you just starting airsoft i would recomend the tm as previously stated in the thread tm is basiacally a bullet proof choice for a starter gun.

Exactly, people really need to open their minds and realize that TM is actually sort of a rip off, I meen, sure they give you a dependible functioning AEG, but thats it, the bare minimum right there.

It's starting to bother me that it seems everyones first gun or first gun recomended to them is a TM M4, which is really quite lame now and I'm sure the people who buy it end up disoppionted that the $1000 in upgrades and metal parts they just put on it to make it 1337, they could have got for nearly half price out of the box from G&P.

The way I see it, if CA, ICS, G&G, G&P etc. doesn't make it (in fibre glass or metal) then go with TM

I think those companies have proved themselves quite well and we need to open our heads (and wallets) and give them a chance.

Now about quality, those brands are just as good as TM, usually better.

But think, whats gonna cost more should a problem arise.... like a $50 mech box problem at the most, or that $1000 for your TM

Think about it

Ans of course if your not going for realism/coolness/1337ness and your looking fo rthe cheapest thing out of the box, then yes go with TM but also remember that those ^ brands only cost 150-200 more and end up saving you hundreds
