Buying My First AEG (SD5 or SD6)

In the next month or so I am going to buy my first AEG.Being new to the sport
there are so many choices out there for a noob like myself to consider.I am going to be playing CQB at XT here in Winnipeg and am most definately going to be playing alot of outdoor games.I have decided that I want an MP5 to start out my kit with,I really like the look of the MP5 SD5 or SD6.
Now the part im stuck on is which brand to buy, and which model to get.I have read that the SD6 stock can be/get wobbly after awhile?
Please post comments on your experiences with the SD5 or SD6 and which brand is the way to go with for a noob. I would eventually like the realism of full metal body and it is not pertinant to have it right off the bat.So would it be better to buy a TM gun, then upgrade to metal body or just buy a CA gun and put in TM guts?I dont mind spending extra $ for a better quaility gun that is going to last me alot longer..

You dont need to spend more money, in fact you can spend less!

Get the TM Mp5-k if you want a gun that will last you a long time, its my personal opinion since after owning one and using it for 12 games (8 of them which were outdoor) the gun is a tank.

V3 mechbox owns the V2 in reliability and performance.

Im sure there are people who will disagree with me but its my personal opinion about the gun, seeing how I havent owned an SD6 or SD5 you can take my opinion or leave it.

Wow... this is an odd day...
In a week with virually no "Which gun/How's this do" posts, there's 5 on the same day... we must be getting pretty lax.
It all really depends on preference. I'm no expert on MP5s, but if there's one you prefer, go for it.
Just go to Arnies Airsoft or somewhere else, and look at the reviews. Whichever you like more cosmetically, just go for it.

well first out the full stock SD5 would be better for the large battery longer life. i hear some good things about the ICS MP5's never shot one before mostly just word of mouth.

I own a SD5 so I'm here to help.

I've had it for up to 2 months or so and it shoots fine. I've been told the stock for the SD6 isn't as reliable but I might be talking to the wrong people. I feel the gun is fine the way it is so I won't comment on weather or not you should upgrade to metal body. I like TM version due to the adjustiable hop up and its really simple to use. The detail is very nice. Just a tip though remember to buy a strap if you need one because TM guns don't come with straps maybe pick up some spare mags.

I figured that as well about the larger battery,being more efficient,but the main concern I have is the brand of gun. I have read that the CA internals dont last as long as the TM ones and are more prone to breakage.Is this an issue right across the board with CA guns?

Since you are a beginner I suggest TM because they are reliable. I'm not a CA expert but I've heard good and bad things. The larger battery is a blast to have and you can change the large battery into many differnt guns like M16/M4/AUG/Famas/ect so yeah...great

Older ones yes. New ones are good. Buy the CA one if you can find it. Farrrrr better deal than the TM one.

My buddy gundam2000 bought an ICS MP5A4 and loves it. Far easier to take apart than the TM, full metal, durable, and reliable. I'd recommend any full metal gun over the TM one regardless of the internals, those are cheaper to replace than the receiver and you certainly don't need to replace them right away.

I'd recommend the SD5 because the full stock houses a larger battery, and will be more durable than the collapsible stock. The advantage of the SD6 though is that you can put either stock on at your leisure and not worry about the wiring, but you're hamstrung with the mini battery. If you buy a second battery then don't worry about it and get the SD6. XT has the 8.4V and 9.6V Intellect 1200 mAh packs in stock and you can't get any better than those right now in a mini.

The newer CA MP5's are pretty good, but you can't beat a TM with a metal body. If it were my money, I'd go with TM.

If you plan on playing a fair bit outdoors in Manitoba (and upgrading the gun with only a mild spring and bushings that will allow you to play both XT and outdoors) I'd personally go for a solid stock and a large battery. A mini battery dies pretty quick trying to crank a PDI 150% or SP110 spring.

Personally, I'd avoid ICS MP5's. The three or four I've seen in Manitoba over the long haul have been nothing but money pits.
