They look a bit darker in the pics. And, of course, the paint needs to be naturally worn down...

For a first try I'd say you absolutely nailed it. By far one of the most badass paintjobs I've seen.

hmm... never heard of that one... Try getting some fake long blades grass from your local craft store. Cheap, and effective.

Ahaha, of course! It's just that I found through my experience, REAL grass proved it self to be very difficult to use effectively. The long plastic blades of fake grass worked like a charm, they held in place, perfect size, and are reusable after.

*Edit* Kudos on the first paint job, very nicely done!

Dusti69, you're in no position to be talkin about guns or gear comin' out the garbage.

Jarhead, the setup is sweet, BUT the wear is noticably "forced". You have the right idea, but what you need to do is re-coat it and then this time just stick to the edges of the gun with your buffing wheel. The flat wear spots don't suit, nothing would wear it like that "naturally". Great first attempt but I'd start it again, touch up and this time just touch the edges only. The scratch and small wear spots along the cheek rest are a nice touch, if you do anything on the flat surfaces of the receiver, I'd mimic those small "scratches" but not so many, one or two would look great.

Did the tan base then losely wrapped some para-cord around it. Then proceeded with the brown and OD and added a slight touch of black.

Next time I do that, I`ll do the tan, wrap it up in 1/2 inch thick rope, do the second color, add more rope, do the third color and so on.

It was a bitch to put on the para-cord, so I decided to leave it the way it was and just paint it...

JR, is that the gun you gamed with last week? I can't believe it survived through rain. Great PTW.
