PDI hopup

After researching on the PDI hopup i foud that you need to use tape in order to have the hopup spring stay in place.

Is that true ? I mean how come the best hopup need tape to work ?

Do some others user have done this befor or do you have any other solution ?

It uses a stretchy oring.

I know what he means, and literally, I've never used that spring anyways, couldn't justify it's existance, and one didn't come with either my stock CA hop up (is shown in the diagram), nor did I get one with my PDI hop up unit. A pointless add-on, but if one wants to install it, tape is the only way to go.

I think it is supposed to help prevent 'lever flutter' as the BB shoves the bucking out of the way when it passes, and maybe help hold the lever down too, but the O-ring is strong enough to do all that anyways.

And I wouldn't call it "the best hop up", I really don't see any difference between it and the stock CA hop up units I have had and used before, no noticable difference at all. Waste of money? Maybe.

Only benefit of the PDI is the double hop system.
It has a left/right and an up/down.

btw, its at 6:20, not 5:20
Thats one guy's "homemade" fix for the spring. Its not designed for it.

Ya, I know, the dual levers to be able to straighten the hop up tragectory, but I guess because I put the hop up back on straight every time, I've never had an issue with left or right adjustments.

Since i dont like the tape thing i will not use this.

I was refering to it as the best hopup since a lot of folks around here seems to really enjoy it and it seem that it's often a upgrade that need to be add on a rifle.

Um.. ok.

Like we said. the tape thing is just something he did to "improve" the hopup. Both the stock CA and PDI have the same design/system.

Regardless of which system you use, you will be confronted with the same situation.

If you want the hop up unit, get it and just don't bother installing that spring with the tape. It'll work just as well.

As far asit being "the best", I really wouldn't go that far, but will say that years ago the Maruzen APS2-SV (where the heck are they these days, I only see VSR and the many clones, L96 clones and the CA M24 around here) was THE rifle platform to get and to upgrade, since it was the best. It came with a non-adjustable hop up and the Maruzen Super Grandmaster 0.29g precision BBs were meant to be used with that gun and that hop up unit. I believe the PDI hop up unit was the only one available for giving the adjustability to the APS2 platform.

But it being "the best"..................... well, as said it's virtually the same design as the stock CA M24 V2 hop up unit, except it's painted black and has two adjustment screws, one for each lever to give a bit more flexibilty in tuning. It's not like there is any noticable difference in performance at all.
