You can hand program the 888. Read & re-read the Chinglish manual, then execute. Yes, they do appear garbled, and yes, you will have false starts, but it is very doable. Programming via computer is convenient, but a computer is not always handy.

It took me about 10 minutes to figure out the menu/input system, and 30 to input the freqs in.

I got the USB cable but had no luck getting the drivers/COM ports working on my PC, so after a couple hours of false starts I spent 10 minutes manually programing the radio. It’s not that tough.

I still would like to know how to adjust the frequency increments. Mine changes .25 at a time. Even when manual typing in the frequency it won't go to the number I punch in.

And before anyone says it, YES I did search and google it.

Would anyone know if there is a way to lock ONLY the front keypad while still letting you change channels with the top knob?

What frequency do you need that it won't go to?
That might just be a limitation of the radio.

You have to change the stepping to 12.5 KHz. My UHF radio (GP68) also came stock with 25 KHz stepping which confused the hell out of me for days.

There's a fairly good guide here on how to change it:

How is that for round-about. You linked to a copy of my guide that someone posted on another forum, which I originally made here, and linked to above.

Checked my manual for any variable lock options. Unfortunately, locking the keyboard also disables the channel knob.
