the 'other' reason for that, is that our beloved governing body is too cheap to buy the paras. That, and the Sig is a wonderful piece of work.

First off the Inglis (Cdn maker of the hi-power) is a much more robust sidearm for combat... probably why the SAS and some other tactical units used it for so long. The 225 only has a 7 rds single stack 9mm. When given the option we took the hi-power, not only for the 14rds, but it was easy to look after and trustworthy.

As for who carries sidearms... officers, MP's, veh crew, medics, snipers, those operating hvy/crew served wpns, or others as seen fit by their units...

and... ammo techs do not look after weapon repairs, that would be .... WEAPON TECHS. Ammo techs look after the munitions and such and is one of the trades that can become EOD.

and to just for clarity bigmatty. when i broke the firingpin a weapon tech took a look at the gun and basicly said it could be a few months befor he could get it fixed, i asked if i got one if he could put it in. so done and done. im not going to argu or try to justify myself.

Either you just made that up, or someone just told you a bunch of BS.

I got this from my brother, a Reg Force 031 who's doing work up training for Khandar, an has a few friends over there now.

Everyone does NOT get a pistol. Only officers, turret gunners, C6 gunners, etc

only a few people actually have the new sigs(like JTF2, Boarding Party), everyone else has brownings.

In case you are thinking you get to go out on patrols, you won't be, only reg force pers do that.

I've been hearing a bunch of complaints about the Inglis HP. Apparently it doesn't handle the sandy conditions well.

No weapon is really meant to have sand sucked into it. Just have to clean them a lot.

But the brownings do suck a bit, an they can have NDs(without you even touching them).

I am ex-military, I was never issued a sidearm but I did see a few NCO's carrying them as well as a few officers......just my 2 cents
