Effects of upgrades/green/propane on stock slides (pics).

I thought it might be fun to document and share images, stories and information good or bad about using upgrades in stock guns to determine for posterity what people should generally be able to expect.

ie

TM HiCapa
upgrades = blah, blah, blah
approx XXX shots since upgrade
using _____ gas.

result: all good! or symptoms and/or pics.

Here I go:

- TM HiCapa
- metal shooters design chamber and outer barrel, guarder 150% recoil and hammer springs
- approx 400 shots since upgrade (though I always used the green gas.)
- using green gas.

I've contrasted the damaged areas to highlight the wear. Note the ABS is wearing away, taking the shape of the metal chamber. This is approximately 300-400 shots since application of metal chamber set and recoil spring.

The chamber has worn the metal area on the slide as well. There is a mild symptom from this: pressing the protruding end of the outer barrel inwards causes the out barrel/ chamber to 'pop' slightly forward into the gun, out of position. This does not effect performance, its just possible now that the metal has given way. I'm sure this upgrade will eventually be the death of this poor ABS slide ;0)

Its worthy to note however that the HiCapa actually performs MUCH better using green gas over 134a. I used one can of 134 before trying and continuing to use green. Cool down effects on rapid firing became a non-issue, firing 30 shots in under 5 seconds being easily accomplished without noticeable detriment. The effect of the springs and chamber on performance weren't obvious, and were perhaps the most damaging. If you are a practical person, a stock HiCapa with green gas is a beautiful thing. If you want the look and harder recoil, then follow the path I've taken, but be prepared to invest in an aluminum or metal slide.

Note, my full review of the SD stuff can be found at:
