Dry fire every other shot

Good afternoon guys

Backstory, got a gun in pieces from a friend older ICS mp5.
Figured it was a good time for an upgrade so I got the guarder upgrade kit.
Low fps but good feeding. Replaced the nozzle with an m4 one as the mp5 one is not long enough to seal with the hopup rubber.
Now only every other shot fires with the occasional double round.

Anyway any ideas? Gonna try the original tappet plate and an mp5 nozzle and see if the tappet plate sizing is off.

mp5 nozzle is unique length. an m4 nozzle is not correct.

Well apparently from a few forums the old mp5's used m4 length nozzles and the m4's used mp5 nozzles with ICS's.

If the air nozzle is just .010" too long it can cause serious feeding issues. I wouldn't expect most people to be able to see that small of a difference.
Also I think there was some issue with the guarder plates, either angled front or too thick in the front.
Make sure the air nozzle moves back and forth freely, and did you change the hop rubber?

hand feed the gun upside down if bbs don't drop into the chamber, your nozzle is too long. If you have to press on the stack to get them in, the nozzle is too long. Nozzle length should be confirmed by comparing the original to the new one and even then, the best way is still to measure with a set of calipers.

ICS is a marui clone, nozzle is generally around 20.40mm A marui spec m4 nozzle is around 21.40

If you compare lonex mp5 nozzle to lonex m4 nozzle, you get 20.23mm and 21.26

That is a full mm off on both comparisons.

Unfortunately it did not have the original nozzle. When I put the mp5 nozzle in it was only shooting 220 with a guarder 120 spring with a lot of air leaking out between the nozzle and hopup. With the m4 nozzle it shoots about 340 but still has a bit of a leakI did replace the hopup rubber also.

I have not gotten a chance to pull it apart yet. Will try the hand feeding option first.

I had similar issue here are a few things you can try with variable success:
1. use 7.4 battery instead of 11.1. 11.1 may be too fast for bb to load
2. use a delayer, it allows for bb to have more time to load
3. use a shorter nozzle. This was the solution I got most success with.
4. sand off a bit of nozzle. It was suggested by a airsmith to me but I never tried it.

Got an Ics tappet plate and nozzle. Nozzle is labeled as an mp-23 anyone know if this is the right size for the mp5? I assume it is but I do not want to be troubleshooting if it's not going to work. Will get back to you guys tonight with your suggestions.

So replaced the tappet plate and nozzle. Nozzle does not seem to come foreword enough to apply any pressure to the bucking. Then did a movement test with the nozzle and it seems like the new tappet plate is a bit too large and does not move smoothly.

Cycling smoothly now. Next is the nozzle extends right to the edge of the feeding tube but the bucking does not seem to push in far enough. Hopup chamber is super tight. Even bought another and it has the same problem. Is it better to have the bucking slid in a little more than the barrel or stretched tight over it? Bucking is a prommy purple.
