Question Sniper platform with a pistol-type grip

Hello all,

I'm looking to eventually get into using a spring sniper rifle in the future, but I have a preference for sniper rifles with a M4/16 pistol grip. Like an M14 EBR, or M82a1 type of grip. I'm not a fan of the L96 platform at all, but the version without the thumb-hole and a hybrid pistol grip with the stock attached to the bottom are ok. I also don't want a giant rifle like the m82 or the m100.

I need the platform to accept all of the high end upgrades, but there seriously seems to be a lack in rifles like this out there. I mean hey, there are WELL VSR tactical rifles, and mausers, but I've heard mixed things about compatibility with upgrade parts.

I'm just looking for a good shell basically, lol.

Any thoughts, ideas, links, would be much appreciated.

The Echo 1 ASR takes many L96 upgrades. Has an LE stock and an Ar-15 style pistol grip.

Its not the perfect platform and there are problems and a chance you will get a model with poor tolerances though.

The mauser (the one with the weird grip) is a clone of the APS-2 Type 96

It accepts all the upgrades for said platform. However, as with any clone there will be fitting need.

For example, I have to shim the zero-trigger I am installing because the receiver is a tiny bit thinner at the bottom.

I'm assuming any gun tech could easily do the precision fitting needed? I'm guessing it's something like dremmel work?

Depends on the work. There's also issues like air seal an actual high end platform is allot less likely to have said problem

Untrue

I have upgraded TMs, Maruzen, CAs and tons of clones. All have fitting issues.
The upgrade parts, even though they are top quality like LayLax/PDI, are not make in the same factory, by the same engineers as the main gun.

They sample more guns than cheap brands like Action, but it's still backwards engineering.

Not all guntech will be able to fit the parts. Seek someone who specialises in bolt-action rifles, as it's a whole other game than AEGs. Also, if you need a Dremell, you are doing something wrong. A good set of files is the most useful tool for fitting parts this size.

Needle files and wet sanding my bolt actions are all done by hand no machines needed. Also for the most part the laylax parts drop right into a tm vsr but the tsd/well needed a lil love to run smoothly

Hmmm - lots of good info here. Thank you guys If anyone has anything else to add - keep it coming. I'm definitely going to look into the Mauser and do a lot of research. Here's hoping I can find a cheap one used or new someplace.

The Well Vsr10 mb11 or mb12 does have a similar grip. It is also easy to find upgrades for it and its cheaper then the mauser your looking at. http://torontoairsoft.3dcartstores.c...or_p_2506.html
I also found a mauser to, but made from well hope this helps. http://torontoairsoft.3dcartstores.c...B05_p_746.html

Alright I'm a little bit confused. On the PDI website it lists "APS2 Maruzen" and "Maruzen Type 96" as seperate categories. What would the WELL L96 (The Mauser version, MB05) fit under?

That would be the Type/L96. There are subtle differences between cylinder head/lengths and stuff between the l96 and the plain ol' APS-2.
