I accidentally put one of the pieces in the wrong spot, and the dimensions are a bit different with 5/8 melamine, I'll have to adjust a few things and try another one.

Also, you can cut the groove in the sides by lowering the blade on a table saw to about 3/8, the clipboard is a really tight fit though, so you'll have to wiggle the saw fence a little to the right after the first pass and cut it again.

And I was too lazy to go out and get ductseal, so The inside is stuffed with newspapers.

Nice! I pinched some glossy wood-grain white melamine from the shop when I made mine, so it started shiny.

Box built and it works great. Not just for pistol either, the duct seal will take upwards of 370fps from 20ft without having serious pitting issues. Higher fps if you stay further back.

Great job with the design, only thing that I would modify is the groves cut in the sides so the clipboard can slide in, make them a bit deeper on the plans. Mine came up a little shallow and I had to re-run them over my tablesaw.

10/10 for practicality and portability!

made a big hole (1/2'') in one front left corner in the bottom to evacuate bb's

Depending of your wood thickness, circular saw blade thickness and paper clip size, some minors adjustements needed to the dimensions of the box.

This was very easy to make.
I had 2 pieces of wood from an old self that I used to cut up and make the trap. The plans worked great (although the wood I used was 1/16" thinner)
I use a good table saw and its easy to do, just set up and cut all the measurements the same.
As for the grooves I just did them as deap as I wanted and cut the front sheet to fit into that space.
Will probably used the seal for back stop but might try a few other things I have laying around the house first.
Oh and adding a handle to the top makes it that much easier to move around

for an airsoft version, would cloth hanging in the box work as well as the putty? I used a similar method for my archery backdrop.
get some canvas, fold it in half, and just hold it in place from the top so it hangs loose. this makes it so when an arrow hits it it crumples inwards to absorb the energy. this would mean that there is nothing getting worn down and needing replacement. or at least if you do have to replace it, it would be about 50 cents to replace it.

This is something to try for sure. The only problem I have with putty, with rifles (more powerfull than pistol), is that some bb's stick deeply into the putty, and after 5-6 mags +/- 150 bb's, it makes a bb's plastic wall that make rebound out of the trap. So need to clean the putty each 2-3 mags to avoid rebound on jammed bb's. Maybe a piece of cloth will work. At the base, the putty is made for stopping 4.5mm metal bb's.

Right now I just stuffed mine with 2 newspapers and it works fine.
And after a few weeks just remove the first one and replace it, or if you use it alot remove them both and replace. If your like me and get the newpapers all the time then you will have an endless supply
And it has done wonders stopping everything, shreds the papers real good though lol.

I have put some cloths inside, it help to stop rebound when the ductseal is full of bb's
