WE-Tech Thompson M1A1 GBBR and CO2

I am getting a WE-Tech Thompson M1A1 GBBR and I was curious if anyone knows if it perhaps could handle CO2 instead of Green Gas/Propane?

I'm making a custom build Aliens Pulse rifle that is fully gas airsoft. It has a CAM870 in for the shotgun portion and it would be quite handy to be able to just use CO2 for both the shot shells and the M1A1 mags.

I seriously doubt the mag shells are rated for unregulated co2. I wouldn’t risk it. If you want a somewhat higher pressure just go with MAP gas (yellow bottles at Canadian Tire).

Oops meant so say I have the PPS M870 Mostly just looking to not have to have both propane and CO2 on hand for it.

I have the PPS adjustable CO2 charger.

You could regulate the CO2 down to ~150PSI, but then you're going to run into the problem of not having much CO2 in the reservoir. Might not be able to even get a full bb fill out of it. In my experience, CO2 also lends itself to much more erratic muzzle velocities as well.

Are you planning on doing a milsim or something without easy access to a prep area? Just leave your little Coleman propane can and your CO2 bulbs with the rest of your gear.

Nah, was just hoping for simplicity, seems like green/propane and CO2 for the shells is how I will have to go.

Unless you can customize the magazines to have tanks like GHK magazines, I'd advise against it.

The M1A1 mags, like most GBBR, simply have a rectangular hollow section in the mag, sealed at the joints with custom-shaped rubber seals. It's fine for GG/propane, but with CO2, the square corners are gonna be a major point of failure, and you might as well have a bomb in your hands.

Yeah I’m not planning on risking it myself, I hoped someone would know for certain. I’ll be sticking with green/propane.

Anyone happen to know what the little switch on the top of the magazine does?

The one on the very top enables or disables dry firing. It's pretty common across WE gas rifles. If you do enable the dry fire function, make sure to also press down the latch on the back of the magazine (beside the valve). That latch, when up, disengages the trigger mechanism, so it needs to be down.
