Recommendations for good spray paint on aluminum or steel receivers?
Anybody out there have any good recommendations for a good spray paint for aluminum or steel parts?
Receivers and slides mostly.... I dont have the capita to send things offf for powdercoating/durocoating anymore. I'm too poor.. Anything BUT Krylon. They dont stick properly to metal... Discuss.

I've had decent success with Rustoleum paint, but you have to let it cure for the whole week before touching it.

Proper prep will make a HUGE difference as well. Give it a light sanding, then use a decent primer followed by light coats of paint.
Has always worked for me in the past. |

I use Tremclad High Heat Enamel paint. After baking it on, you'll get a real gun finish that's very durable. The prep work must be done perfectly or you'll get a low quality finish. I've done many receivers with this paint, and they last just as long as the factory finish, sometimes longer.

Are Duracoat kit available in Canada? What's stopping you from doing it yourself?

Aervoe paints are very popular for painting live fire guns in the states. They even have kits available for painting to specific camo patterns.

Plasti dip? Seems to adhere fine on aluminum wheels and survive muddying and rock crawling

Games Workshop's Chaos Black primer. It's a really nice matte finish, and it sticks to everything.
It's a little expensive because it's designed for Games Workshop Miniatures.

Cold bluing is another option for steel slides/receivers. Canadian Tire sells bluing kits for real guns.

Biggest thing is to use a good primer. find a good primer for metal and then the world of painting is your oyster!
**i have had issues with bubbling paint when using tremclad primer then rustoleum paint on top of it**

I have an airbrush that i just use. hvlp would be a nice upgrade.
Prep work... I sand anything to bare metal then paint a thin coat of primer. then next day i put 1 or two layers of paint on. I've been using Krylon but it's pure garbage. So moved onto Rustoleum but again it gets really flaky and too grainy. Any suggestions on how to bake a steel (or aluminum slide) receiver?

Brownell's Alumnhyde II Hard to get a hold of since brownells wont ship outside of the US but you could always pick it up in the states.
Their website http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-to...-prod1117.aspx The paint he used is a DE type colour but they sell different colours as well. just to give you an idea that it turned out really well My brother Noveske used the paint in one his well known builds. The Mag-K He also Sprayed my Larue Receiver for my Larue M4. Its kinda got a ceramic texture to it but it stays on well

I like engine enamels, but they are very, very finicky with what they stick to.
