Vests and Zippers

So I found a really neat police vest online and I was wondering if it is a good idea to buy a vest with a zipper? Some people tell me not to buy one with a zipper because the BBs might break it.

What do you think?

Unless its a cheap zipper I guess it might but it would have to be a lucky shot ..But if it were to happen it be pretty annoying if your OCD about it .. I bet you'll break it before a bb does

Are you concerned about the teeth of the zipper breaking, the tab on the zipper breaking or the slider breaking?

It all depends on the quality of the vest.
Do you have a link to said product?

i have a condor tac vest with a zipper, and i managed to pull a tooth out of the zipper. it has nylon/plastic teeth and one just came out of the fabric it was attached to. i managed to super glue it back in. as much as i like the quickness of putting a zippered vest on, my next one wont have one unless it's a metal one.

mine is like the below ones [random google image search pic]

i don't think a bb would damage it though.. i did get shot hot enough to imbed a bb into the vinyl panel above the molle.. there is a little padding it went into

My camelbak delta5 had YKK zippers and it still broke when it got shot.
Either sew on a protector or deal with the fact it may get shot lol

I have a genuine Arktis vest I bought in 2004 that has a zipper it's pretty worn, to the point of needing replacing, but still works fine.

I have this same vest in MC with a few modifications, Never had a zipper issue after two years. Although I'm super cool 3l337 so I don't get shot much lmao

The vest is pretty cheap, might buy a different one that is more expensive.

Que the why would you get that vest questions now.

and let me start.
honestly you are better getting a molled vest to begin with so you can buy a vast assortment of pouches and have more options on placement/weight distribution. I'd suggest something like what cetane posted.

I've been getting a lot of gear for airsoft over the past 10ish years and it took me way too long to realize that you very often get what you pay for. I would be pretty skeptical of a 35$ vest unless I had a chance to inspect it. If you wanted something in that price range, I think Condor makes some low-profile load bearing vests and MOLLE vests for around 40-45$ + shipping.

Just taking a quick look, but judging by your interest in the police vest, maybe you'd be inclined to something like this:

Zipper or no zipper...I would get a MOLLE vest. The vest you are looking at is locked into one mag pouch type and one layout. I started with one like that...and when I got my Condor, I never took the other one out of the closet again. MOLLE all the way.
