G&G GK5C (AK5C) discussion.

Good morning ASC Brain-Trust.

Am looking for information about the G&G AK5C AEG. I've seen a few of them on my local field recently and like the look of the externals and the weight of the weapon, but am curious as to what they are like internally.

I know they have a V2 mechbox, and what -looks- to be a fairly standard M4 internal setup, but could really appreciate some confirmation / clarification.

Additionally, I know they have a very small battery compartment, almost necessitating the use of LiPos, but am curious if it is capable of handling the LiPos when stock or if I need to put some work into it to just ensure basic functionality. Furthermore, will an 11.1 fit in it or is it relegated to 7.4s?

Battery compartment is pretty meh. I run an 11.1v 1300mah nunchuk and sometimes it's a fight to get all 3 sticks in, you gotta wrap them around the barrel a bit.
The internals however are not really M4 style aside from having a V2 gearbox, the hopup chamber is different, all the switches and levers, the nozzle...

Mags are M4 standard
Stock is pretty much not replaceable without an adapter
Forward rails are recessed into the handguard, limiting space for attachments.

If you have anything more specific you want to know, I can take a closer look.

No that's great info bud.

It sounds like own one yourself, has it been a good friend to you? Reliable? And if you have had to do parts orders for it, how common are they to find?

-Standard V2 gearbox, but it comes stock with the G&G pneumatic gingerbread one that /always/ breaks unless you immediately sorbo pad it
-Proprietary (I think, at least longer than M4) nozzle
-Crooked top rail
-First gen had feeding problems, make sure it works before you buy it
-Flimsy bolt catch/release (Check the ASC thread on this gun for a fix)
-Solid external receiver construction, fairly heavy, but comfortable
-Integrated pressure pad slot on the handguard (pretty cool)
-Shitty battery compartment

It's not the best gun, but most parts are easy enough to replace. I wouldn't keep it as your only primary. It's interesting/uncommon enough to out weigh the cons, though.

Yeah, it's unlikely to be the only gun I have on me at any time.

When you say crooked top rail, do you mean that it is tilted or bent in some way? Is it sufficient enough to distort optic zeroing? And is it a constant across the model?

Also did not know there was an ASC thread on this gun. Any chance you can find a link for me? I'll be looking for it as well.
