Advice for cleaning off FMU pistol? / don't use too much silicone!

Just received my full metal M11 and love the feel and weight. Only catch is the previous owner / like many others I suspect used too much lube and further lubed with silicone on the metal parts.

1. Reminder to all GBB owners, don't use silicone for metal on metal lubrication. Silicone is for lubing rubber and plastic parts. Lithium should be used for metal on metal.

2. How do you suggest I clean the metal body and parts? I'm planning on stripping down the M11 and using brake cleaner on the metal housing. Do you guys think that brake cleaner will be bad for the metal parts and paint?

Brake cleaner is pretty harsh stuff...I would think that isopropyl alcohol would be better.

just rebuilt 4 glocks in the last week and a half. isopropal alcohol (ok i can't spell ... sue me) works great.

- wipe down everythign you can get to with paper towel
- with a old used toothbrush (soft bristle works best imho) use alcohol (use a small jar or glass to hold liquid) and brush all the old oil off
- wipe down gun/parts again and repeat above steps.

after two wipe/brush cycles the parts/gun will be free of the evil silicone and you can lube it up correctly. also having a supply of q-tips is pretty handy as well anything small like a toothpick or somethign to get in the cornors where the grime and stuff likes to hide out.

I would avoid useing anythign stronger then alcohol as it might eat away at the paint/finish on the metal and it's certainly not good for plastic if you get any on the plastic/rubber parts.

Strangely enough, hot water and soap. Be 100% sure it's completely dry afterwards. Only lube what needs to be lubed after that.

This has the advantage of being safe for most anything. Even real guns.

you can get problems with cheap asian parts that rust if you dont get it 100% dry.

Alcohol doesnt give that problem.

Maybe because it's been said to work to remove paint from GBBs. Guess you just got confused.
