MP5 shoots full auto on semi

Good day. I hope you can help me with my concern with my echo1 mp5a4. It won't go semi. i mean even if i put it to semi, it will still shoot auto but it used to go on semi when i just got it. i used it in a game then just when my battery was about to die out, it became full auto on semi (it was shooting semi on the game)... now it remained shooting full auto on both semi and auto. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. I do not know how to open guns though and is afraid to do so.

Cheers!

Jay

Most likely the cutoff lever spring is gone/broke or maybe the actual cutoff lever broke. No way to tell unless you open it up.

If you don't want to do it yourself, get a gundoctor to do it.

yo dude... I guess I'll reply to your PM here...

Yes SEMI auto problem are related to the cutoff lever not engaging, which could be caused by 2 things (that styrak already mentionned)

1) The cutoff lever is worn out by usage, so it doesnt properly do its work...
2) You're missing the small springs that sit between the selector plate and the cutoff lever on the outside of the gearbox. (see pic... look for the tiny little spring in the middle of the picture, that looks all crammed up)

But for now, just open your gun, and get the mechbox out, and see if it has that small spring.... if it does.... then its a inside-the-mechbox problem, and you'll have to open it up to check inside.... and if it doesnt, then you'll need to find another small spring to fit in there....

PS: best way to know your gun, is to know exactly how it works...

So, if you want to learn, or already know how to open up your gun, I would suggest you to do it yourself, since the gundock service fees usually start at 20$ per hour... (but you'll be doing it at your own risk, and you could screw your gun....like totally screw it.... so before opening your gun and mechbox, read, watch videos, ask around... (or ask me?))

Hope it helps..

Paul

Thank you so much for the info Paul and Styrak. I will try to open it and look for the cut off lever spring thing. But i will look for vids and stuff first. will PM you both after i opened it. The first and last time i opened a gun, i wasn't able to put it back so i never tried again since then (2006) lol... but somebody has to learn the "how tos" right? Thank you so much again.

One more thing to check is the switch assembly. If it's a very used gun, the contacts could be full of corrosion and it only goes to full auto. If you find out that it's corroded, take some fine sand paper and give it a quick scrub.
