I don't think that's how "generations" work for SRC. the generations just indicate the quality of the internals used, not when they're made. 3>2>1. That's why SRC is still making "Gen II" guns.

I'm not sure which Gen I worked on, but I was expecting the typical SRC "reinforce everything" gearbox. It was nothing like a V3 SRC gen 3 gearbox, which I have worked on before. So I'm guessing it's a gen 1 or 2. Best thing to do with SRC guns is to open it up for inspection, before firing a single shot. Does your RPK have wood furniture Ron?

Yeah, it is not up to me though. I will send it back to the retailer, working and with a written report. He can then decide what to do between he and his customer.

Either way it is a very expensive fix for what I originally thought would be a piston swap only.

NO, plastic fake wood furniture. It is the gen 2 model.

I was wondering why I have a gen 2 when it is new stock just out of the factory. But as silencer stated, the generations just seem to indicate quality level. I now see why this is such an affordable support gun.

I agree that ignorance is no excuse. I returned it to the shop today. I don't see a full warranty in the works for this customer.

^That you refer to G&G as "inferior" is just plain WRONG. Ever seen their toptech line up?
VFC are piston eaters most of the time as well.

Don't see how I'm plain wrong with referring to G&G as inferior. I've seen their their top tech AR-15s and SCARS; when compared to VFC, their externals are objectively inferior, and some key internal parts such as the gears are inferior as well (sector gears strip very easily, even on top techs, much rather replace a piston rather than gearset). This is enough for me to consider G&G inferior to VFC. Keep in mind that inferior doesn't mean, "bad" just "not as good".

Yes I have, and yes it is Inferior. Replacing a Piston is a CHEAP alternative to the many repeated failures many "Toptech" line suffer such as shorn off gears, shittacular airseal etc etc.

VFC makes the piston the weak point by design and rightfully so. If there is a critical failure in the functioning operation of the gearbox, the piston is the cheapest and easiet point of failure to repair.

I will give that G&G has put a lot of money into their R&D and redesign of their guns as of late, but their internals are not even close to par with the higher manufacturers such as RS/VFC/Inokatsu/TM etc etc yet.
