Another one: G36 firing full auto in semi

Well here is one I have not seen yet.

I have an ARES G36KV, brand new, just sold it to a customer. When you put it in semi it fire on full auto...BUT, only if there is a LOADED magazine in the magwell!!

WTF?? If I dry fire, then semi is perfect. If the mag runs out of bbs then semi will start working again. I can only think to change the cutoff lever and see if it was defective.

But why does it have to be shooting actual bbs to not work? I have never seen that before. Usually a worn or defective cutoff lever will not work even when dry firing.

My guess: Sticky microswitch. The extra vibration from the hard hit of dry firing is shaking the microswitch free, but the backpressure of firing with BBs doesn't provide enough vibration to shake it free.
I had this problem on a CA249, but it would run away on full auto until it ran out of BBs, dry fire once or twice and stop.

Ah yes, I forgot about those annoying ARES trigger switches. Maybe that is the problem, however I have seen those runaway M249's before. And like you say they run away. This one still has trigger control, but it is always in full auto until no bbs.

Supplementary question: if I ever wanted to change the electrics in an Ares g36 gearbox, can I just use a regular v3 trigger mechanism our will only those stupid micro switches fit?

an entire V3 gearbox apparently fits with no issue into an ares.

oddly enough you are not the first to mention this... there's a thread on asm started by ikliiu (he's here on asc as well) about an ares g36 doing the exact same thing as you describe dated january 2012. Unfortunately nobody figured it out and there was no resolution posted or even an update whether it was fixed or not.

What happens if you put some pressure on the nozzle to simulate a round and fire the gearbox outside of the gun?

This happened to me on a CA about 3 years ago, and my issue was the trigger carriage wasn't disengaging all the way because it was hitting the tappet plate. I fixed it by sanding down the spring nub on the carriage.

I also had this happen to me on an ARES when the trigger spring was too light.

Another supplementary question: Is there a way to securely hold the microswitch in the gearbox before putting the halves together? I have a lot of trouble with the micro switch wanting to lift out before I put the gb together.

Here is an update:

I separated the upper and lower and semi worked while dry firing. I then put my finger over the nozzle to give it back pressure and it went full auto, same as when it shoots bbs.

I decided to change the cutoff lever and that just made matters worse. Now it will fire full auto on semi all of the time, even when dry firing.

Any ideas?

You can put the microswitch in after you gearbox halves are together.

Have you checked the tappet plate and it's spring to see if it's coming in contact with anything it shouldn't be touching?
