Canadian FN C1A1 Pics

Here is my baby. Almost done. Just need to carve a pistol grip and obtain a rear sight base. Ares L1A1 (the best version out there) and added a real steel Canadian C1A1 slide cover (with built in charger clip), forestock, buttstock( had to hollow out for battery), and carrying handle. I carried the real thing for 10 years in Can. Infantry so it was awesome that a friend of mine, who served with me and was the Company Quartermaster, had some parts sitting around. Obviously there are still some differences but nothing major.

Awesome! Miss mine too. The C7 just felt odd for the longest time.

Actually, once you add the Elcan, and other attachments, the weight is not much different. The biggest advantage to the C7 was the fact you can carry double the ammo for the same weight.

The C7 was a turn off for, me as well, but soon learned to like it.

The biggest dif was that when you fired the C1 it gave you confidence that whatever that bullet hit was going down. Plus, you could shoot through walls and heavy bush. the 5.56 is to light and easily deflected.

You can buy the ARES L1A1 through eHobbyAsia. It has excellent trades and the quality is very good. Everything fits nice and tight.

King Arms also makes an L1A1, although I have not seen it available for some time. It is not the same quality and a bit loose but not bad. I would have bought one if this Ares did not come up for sale.

Mags are a bit of a concern because they are specific to this rifle and hard to find. I do not think they are available in hi-cap so you need a few to be of any use in the field.

One thing about the Ares version I was very impressed with is that all of the real steel fit exactly. The only thing I had to mod was carving out the buttstock for the battery and to put in a mounting block for the main screw.

Very nice squishall conversion of the L1A1 to a C1A1.... Sure brings back many memories of humping the bush at Cfb Petawawa, Cfb Bordon, Cfb Ipperwash, just to name a few
