I got a new K98 yesterday and i know nothing about it, but I managed to lose the manual, and I dont know how to adjust the hopup, i think i see an allen screw that may be it, but i dont want to start messing with something im unfamiliar with untill im sure

also, the shells only eject about half the time

and it will only get 2 shots off a fill of gas...

everything worked fine yesterday when i picked it up...

I heard the hop-up is under the rear sight

The HOP adjuster is a sensibly sized grub screw under the rear sight leaf.

That is correct.

Be ready to buy new bolt assemblys, or at least have 1-2 spares. The Shell extractor wears VERY easily, and the shells will get stuck in the chamber.

Oh and also be ready to buy new shells like they are water, you drop them on ANYTHING and they dent enough that the rounds get wedged inside the shell. Or they are too lose and they dont stay in the shell so you end up firing blanks.

yes seems im buying a spring bolt anyways, i cant get more than 2-3 shots off of propane, though i could get like 10 off yesterday, and the bolt isnt leaking...
do they make steel extractors so they dont wear so fast?

No, Ive looked into Real Steel ones, and without serious modification, It wont fit.

Shot for shot, its very inconsistant. The primary culpret is again the shells, I find that they are only "fairly reliable" out of the box undamaged. Once cycled, dropped etc etc The shells become very inconsistant at best. The Orings inside the shells are most likely the cause of your problems.

Edit: Mine was the spring version. I never tried the gas cylinder, but considering the size of the bolt, I dont see how you can really shoot more than a clip before having to gas up. Either Carry multiple "gassed up" bolts on you or a propane tank. Neither which I see are viable options.

Never had issues with the hop up. Just be aware, that Inconsistant FPS is usually the cause of your shots differing from shot to shot. Chances are again, its the airseal in the shells causing the issue, not the hop up itself.

As for right and left, clean out your barrel. Theres no reason why it would veer right or left mechanically.

99.5% sure. I had every intention of picking up the gas bolt for the summer games.

From my understanding, the only difference is the bolt. And Mechanically and practically speaking it would be extremely stupid of them to waste money on two different designs if they didnt have to, not to mention "unchinese" of them lol

I no longer have my k98, but i had to do some modifications to fit a real steel scope mount so I could mount a scope (which the scope still was way too far foreward, was hard to aim properly) and I had a real leather issue sling for it.

I used it over a year ago during my lvl 2 certification at the clinic, I came in with 25 shells, walked out with 21, of which 7 were no longer functional. I had the real wood version and I was really attached to that gun, but the issues it gave me were enough to make me give it up. Considering the Shell Ejecting Issue, It would have been REALLY nice if the unjamming rod was real. Woulda saved me GOD knows how much stress trying to get jammed rounds out.

She was shooting very consistant and straight with brand new shells though. Even though some shells (even new) would get jammed due to the worn shell extractor.

Lucky lucky, I'd love to pick up one of these for wall hanging or for taking photos at WW2 events.
