Froglube or Fireclean

Hello All,

Been doing some reading on froglube and it seems like great stuff but you have to heat/warm up the piece you're working on. What do users use to do this?

I've also read about Fireclean but not sure if it's safe for airsoft guns but is easier to use. Anyone use this before?

I use frog lub and don't use heat. It is nice to use heat as it turns the paste to a thick greasy liquid but I haven't had problems using it cold.

You also have froglube in its liquid form for a fast lubricating way to go. But I do heat it up a little for winter storage.

I've used froglube paste as well and it works great even when you don't heat it up. My only problem is that all my guns smell like mint toothpaste which kinda disturbs my family for some reason.

I'd go with frog lube, because it is edible, it would not kill you, therefore would not harm your gun

Been reading some reviews and comments by people who say it gums up their guns (rs).

Anyone have this issue?

I find if your gun sits around for a long time it can. I just add a few drops work it in and its gtg.

I've have both and used the liquid extensively.

First and foremost you have to realize that FrogLube does not work well with other greases/lubes/CLP. From what I gather this is what leads to the "gumming up" that people may have experienced. What I read is that you're supposed to use FrogLube, initially, as a cleaner. It will break down the other stuff (lube/grease) left over and wipe it clean. After you've used it to clean up, you use it to lube.

With my GBBRs and GBBPs I've done the following after cleaning with the lube:
- Remove all plastic parts from all components (ie. on a GBBR I'd remove plastic nozzle, guides, o-rings, etc)
- Plastic parts that are removed can be lubed separately
- Then with all metal parts I coated them, then placed them into a toaster oven on low heat and "cooked it" for about 10 minutes. This heats up the metal and as well heats up the lube itself and allows it to "soak" into the "pores" of the metal
- I would recommend wiping excess away from nozzle as the "wet" lube will get everywhere inside the gun.
- Let the parts cool to the point you can handle, and reassemble.

Result was very smooth and minty cycling on the gun.

Problems I had:
- At first I was over applying and getting lube everywhere, which caused inconsistencies with FPS and hop up, after I cleaned it up it worked well
- Also I didn't fully clean out the receiver with FrogLube either and it was gumming up even though I cleaned the bolt assembly.

Realize that FrogLube is meant for RL firearms, so the effects on airsoft may not be as great. For example, FrogLube is best when it is heated up, so even if it's a bit thicker/gummy after months of storage, the heat from (real) ammunition does reheat both the metal and lube making it reabsorb back into the metal and slick right back up. With airsoft there is no heat, so that positive of the lube is somewhat negated.

What I really like is that it cleans up well and I've had good cycling on my gun from it. It also stores well for me which is an added plus especially if you haven't used your gun in a while and have no time to relube it.

In the words of James Randi, "gravel and bird shit are 'natural', and I still wouldn't eat it". However, just because Randi wouldn't eat it, doesn't mean it would kill you if you ate it.

Thus, I've decided to take your advice, and soak my orings in bird shit, and shove gravel between my bolt and receiver.

(I know you're kidding with your logic...Or at least, I hope you are. I just couldn't resist making fun of it)

Hmm...that gumming issue has me worried as there are times when I don't use my stuff for a long stretch.
