Out of that whole program the only activities that concern me are the 6km run, and the swimming portion. I absolutely hate going underwater, definitely a minor phobia of mine.

No worries here really, I do smoke so long distance running isnt exactly my thing; but for 2.4km isnt to far. Defiantly winded after that, but other than that I would fly through the rest. When playing 18+ games I tend to not rest other then for food and reloads....never sleep or take extended breaks. This is actually one of the things that bugs me about this long milsims. People that either can just not physically endure it bail early. People slowly start packing 8 hours in. Drives me nuts, you sign up for 18 hours. Your team expects you to play for 18 hours.....rant over.

With the current physical state of the forces. Pretty much anyone can pass the old test. I've yet to try the new one but I'm sure if you fail it. They will have some other way to let you pass.

I can pass the CF test easily. I'm working on the JTF2 standards now just to get myself in peak condition.

I was using the JTF2 entry standards as a goal for my work outs in much the same way....I was above the standard in everything except the run. The timings for that run are ridiculous! LOL! I made the timings twice (and damn close 90% of the time) and it almost killed me...mind you I was running on very hilly terrain AND I was pushing maybe 190lbs at the time.

Its funny, a lot of people think that SOF guys are going to be massive beasts! But its quite the contrary....I know a few guys from the old days who are in or were in and all of them lost weight and looked more akin to a triathlete or super in shape life guard.

Basically you need to be a track star

Edit: as for the basic CF standards, Im not current, but I did happen to catch that "reality" show the CF put together a while back and to put it mildly, I was a bit sad at the level of fitness, or lack there of. And PAT platoon? ....really? I mean some dudes got stuck in there because of injury but there were some sorry ass cases as well. Does it not state that you need to be of a certain fitness level when you join and require you to sign off that that is indeed the case? LIARS! LOL!

That’s actually not the worst thing I've seen. At least it incorporate somewhat of a realistic set of exercises to what you might encounter in the field.

I did cringe a bit at the way those two were picking up 20kg sandbags on the shuttle run....Ouch...there goes the back!

I recently did the FORCE test and I did not really find it all that hard. I was well ahead of the minimum requirements which was awesome to see. I'm glad the exercises they test you in are more akin to what you'll actually experience rather than just random exercises.

...now that fucking aptitude test on the other hand. I got wrecked on the math, back to the math books again...

I passed my aptitude test with flying colors when I was in selection. All I needed before hand was a refresher on long division. Everything else was easy enough. Mostly common sense questions with some problem solving mixed in.

I was pretty cheesed about having my application suspended for an arbitrary medical reason considering how fit I am. I scored high enough on aptitude for officer training (was going for infantry) and my medical exam was flawless, until I told them in honesty after being asked about past ailments "I just got over this yeast infection..".

The beaurocratic bullshit I went through just trying to get my application accepted to be turned down, for basically no reason other than having what I equate to athletes foot inside my asshole that gave me the shits in a bad way, and then to see some soft as fuck dudes going through selection without issue was pretty disheartening. I even spent $500 on medical reports to provide to them as evidence from three different doctors to show I was 100% and in very optimal health. I also had references on my application that vouched openly toward my fitness level and this was discussed with me in my interview as being something that stood out for the role I was trying to be recruited for. Apparently that doesn't mean shit to whomever reviewed my file in Ottawa and sent me that letter.

Application wasnt turned down outright, but was told on CF letterhead to wait one year and then request to have my application reconsidered with a medical exam, all because I had a yeast infection I had already recovered from, all this after 10 long months of tedious testing and two separate interviews, both of which went extremely well. "Precautions" my ass. Since then I have had a bitter taste in my mouth about the experience, so I haven't resumed my application. I might resume/reapply in the future, but given that it seems not much has changed in the way they are doing things, I don't think I will.

My dad had told me many times over the many years he spent in the service that I'd be shocked to see some of the plugs that make it into combat units and told me horror stories of the beaurocracy he had to deal with. I guess this hasn't changed much..

Edit: Please note that some of the above is speculation and opinion. CF guys; please don't get your cocks in a knot.
