My basic "first aid" to a new gun is re-grease, better barrel, better spring, and bearing spring guide if it doesn't have one already. Beyond that I only swap out parts as required.

I usually do hop rubber right off the bat
Then compression parts
Then barrel

Most stock barrels are decent and the hop rubber still makes the biggest difference. Some barrels are just garbage though. I go by the amount of wear on it and whether or not it's bent.

Indeed, it depends on the gun.

I think CYMA AKs are much prettier than E&L. i had never used it or seen a G&G. Therefore I don't know how this perform.
I find the features of it good as compared to E&L, while searching for them.

Are you... Gathering this knowledge based on your experience on the internet or have you actually held them? Putting a CYMA beside an E&L, there isn't even a comparison.

I'm curious where E&L stands in comparison to LCT and VFC AKs. Any AK goons handled all three extensively that can comment?

My experience is fairly limited since I'm not an AK, and I'm still deciding what AK to get myself. I have a bunch of V3 Chimeras lying around and I've been itching to do an AK build lol. Anyone that has info to add or correct, please do so I can pick one myself lol.

What I've gathered from my limited experience and talking to AK fanboys

VFC
-discontinued
-they got their design right the first time
-pretty good internals, easiest to work on
-perfect air seal out of the box
-externals not as durable as LCT or E&L

LCT
-some magwell issues
-some motor cage issues
-some issues addressed through newer designs or aftermarket parts
-mock bolt is relatively weak
-great stock internals, on par or slightly better than VFC
-good air seal out of the box

E&L
-some magwell issues
-attention to detail in manufacturing is not great
-feels like it could withstand a nuclear blast, but I guess it still may not be sturdy enough for you GoA guys lol
-average internals, but comes with a neo motor
-below average to average air seal out of the box
-externals not made to same spec as VFC and LCT, possibly RS spec?
