I need a radio

I'm new to airsoft and need a radio, ptt and head set/mic. Does anyone have any suggestions
At the field I play at they use GMRS channels and there's pretty thick woods/bush.

I suspect the common answer on ASC will be a puxing px888. Dualband, programmable and readily available. As far as headset/ptt goes that's a little bit more subjective but make sure to stick with Kenwood plugs (for to use with teh puxing). Availability of ptt and headsets is a little hit and miss though especially early in the season.

Do you need a licence though?

No you do not need a radio/transmitting license to obtain/own/use the Puxing888. Just buy it, program it, and get the headset and put, and your set

But isn't the puxing 888 at a higher output than you are allowed to use on GMRS channels?

Technically yes, you would need a license.

But, if you operate it only on FRS and GMRS frequencies and keep it on low power, there is no major issues with owning and operating the puxing.

Just for arguments sake: How would any authorities know what power output you are operating at?

Either with diagnostic equipment or checking your setting.

FYI, a member of the regulation authority for this stuff plays airsoft with us and uses the high power radios too. Its not a big deal. 4W wont go very far.

As log as you keep it on the proper frequencies there are no issues.

If you need it quickly and cant wait for a restock in country, http://www.409shop.com/409shop_product.php?id=110128

I know a lot of guys who have ordered through them, service is great.

Pickup a spare battery for the radio too if you ever plan on playing 24hr games.

BTW, If you don't need the dual band. The px-777 does the same great job.

Worry less about how they monitor power output. Be more concerned about using the wrong frequencies.

I'd only be using GMRS frequencies and I'm also looking at this radio:

If you want easier help on this forum, I'd go with either puxing or wuxoun. Those are the brands mostly found around here and known to be reliable.
