You can wear the uniform, just not the patches that represents ETF or the Toronto Police, AND please do not carry a replica firearm.

As I've been told, and anyone civillian who wears the police logos will be charged for impersonating the police.
DO NOT have anything that will represent the police, or have any police on the items.
If it does look legit, you can be charged. Doesn't matter what you're doing.

As for patches of TPS, and other services, you won't be able to get them as they are provided by the division if on the force.

i've read posts that people do carry around replica guns as part of their costume. i was intending on carrying a toy gun ie. dollar store quality, but i think it might just be a safer bet to not carry anything at all.

in response to patches that belong to the Toronto metropolitan police: they are out there. i've come across a few from some of the downtown surplus stores. in addition, i find the occasional one on craigslist or ebay (some of them really good quality replicas). i have no intention of using them now (after reading some of the posts).

I wouldn't even carry a toy gun.

Better safe than sorry, and if your kit looks right, it'll do its job without the gun

According to the Criminal Code of Canada....

Quote:
Personating peace officer

130. (1) Everyone commits an offence who

(a) falsely represents himself to be a peace officer or a public officer; or

(b) not being a peace officer or public officer, uses a badge or article of uniform or equipment in a manner that is likely to cause persons to believe that he is a peace officer or a public officer, as the case may be.

Punishment

(2) Everyone who commits an offence under subsection (1)

(a) is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term of not more than five years; or

(b) is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction.

R.S., 1985, c. C-46, s. 130;2009, c. 28, s. 2.

Now that said, for the past few years friends and I have gone out for Halloween as members of the New York Police Department. As I created the uniforms for our group, I went to great lengths to ensure an authentic appearance. Has this resulted in us being charged with impersonating a peace officer on Halloween? No. This is for two reasons: 1) We never attempt to exert any authority over anyone, thus we are not attempting to gain anything by being dressed as we are, and 2) by answering that we are in fact NOT peace officers and that the uniform is merely a costume.

I'll post a reference photo when I can. To date we have received more compliments than complaints in regards to our costumes.

So long as you are not going out for Halloween as a member of a Canadian police agency (and yes, unfortunately defunct or amalgamated agencies fall into this category) and you explain that it is only a costume you should be alright.

Specific to a Flashpoint-themed costume, bear in mind that NONE of the patches actually say "Toronto" on them and that they are a custom design. I am having the same issues attempting to track down Renard Parish Sheriff patches (from the HBO series 'True Blood'), but as they are a custom design they are difficult if not next to impossible to locate. Luckily there are some good reference photos for SRU crests, and a better than likely opportunity to be able to find them online. Failing that you could take the reference photos into a cresting agency and have them attempt a sample.

I hope this was of some help. Best of luck with the costume! If you need any help, don't be afraid to give me a shout.

I've seen the characters wear both Original SWAT 9" Classics, and Magnum Stealth Force 8.0.
Thank you so much! God, ive been "around the world" searching for these.
So good to finally know why I couldn't find it.

Any idea towards, what would be the best "replica" or replacement for these Canadian tactical cut clothes?
Seems like you know what you're talking about! ;-)

Are you talking about the combat uniform? I can assure you that's not what they're wearing. The Cadet Dress uniform has regular buttons, and now that I think about it would work with shoulder straps, pockets, and etc. I will warn though... that uniform was hot as fuck when I wore it a couple of years ago.

on that note, I have grey BDUs for sale: http://airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=118360

I can also provide pictures/more specifics with regards to the cut and style of the tactical uniform if you decide to go down the cut/sew path, as I have an older 90's style of the tactical cut in grey (slightly lighter shade with a few less pockets).

You can get the tac shirts and similar pants at R Nichols. Super expensive there though, unless you are LE, or have discount. The pants any tac style pants should work.

SRU Uniform Set

If anyone is still looking to create their own SRU uniform set, you might want to take a look at Uniform Warehouse and take a look at their BDUs. Since the SRU seem to have shifted from the all grey BDU set to a black long shirt and charcoal pants.

I'm working on creating a patch that closely resembles the one used in the show. There are elements from different Canadian police service patches being used in the Flashpoint patch, which is fairly common (Rookie Blue did this extensively). If you are interested in the patch, I'll be posting it in a week or so once I have it done. If there are enough people interested, I'll go and get them produced.

I did make one above... probably not as accurate but the reason I completely stopped work on it was that it was too close to the real life version for my own comfort.

hmm fair enough...didn't really take that into serious consideration. Perhaps I'll just hold onto my designs for now.
