Moving to Toronto from New Zealand

Hi,

I'm moving to Toronto from New Zealand soon. In New Zealand I played a mixture of airsoft and paintball.

I'm having a bit of trouble finding out what is going on with the law regarding airsoft in Canada. Some sources imply it is fairly easy to do (just buy a gun if you're over 18 and you're sweet) and others say it is handled on a case-by-case basis and weapons need to be clear. Can someone please sum it up for me (and offer references, if possible)? Are full-auto guns allowed?

Also, are there any military-simulation communities around?

Thanks in advance.

Canada is a very Mil-Sim oriented place.

Bit more complicated than that.....

Generally we try to keep it 18+.

As for getting guns. Expect 2-2.5x the cost of an AEG from Asia. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO IMPORT GUNS YOURSELF! There's a few nuances that if you don't get correct you can have your guns seized and destroyed.

Most external furniture and all internals are fine for import it's just that you don't want to import anything prohibited. This essentially means no receivers or lower pistol frames. There's a lot more nuances but that's just the basics.

to answer most of your questions of airsofting in Canada, go to the FAQ section and read up. Most if not all of the info in there is still relevant today.

As far as I know, airsoft is legal for 18-and-overs.

Full-auto guns certainly are allowed.

The really tricky bit however, is that importing a full-scale replica airsoft gun is prohibited and will likely result in seizure. There are workarounds, but they usually entail greater risk or expense. The same applies for certain airsoft gun components like the receiver.

Here's a link to a page that will tell you all you need to know about importing:

http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=40318

The short of it is that it will probably be more troublesome to import prohibited items than it would be to buy from retailers which may already have the item in the country.

I may be a bit of a noob, but I suppose the best advice I can give is to browse all of the stickied topics on the forum and let the information gradually sink in.

Senior members, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, or expand on my post. Or denounce me for being an ignoramus and a ponce.

Also, read up on any topics that strikes your fancy. If you don't see anything you're interested in, hit up the search field in the upper-right corner - something's bound to turn up.

I mean, there're tens of thousands of threads here that run back 10+ years that you can mine for info...

Alceister pretty much hit the nail on the head. Importing replica firearms is definitely a no-no, but buying in-country is pretty simple in terms of legality - just be over 18 years of age. Expect to pay more than you would if you were living in the States, however: a 200-300% markup is the norm around here.

Importing gear is usually kosher, as are your gun's internals. There are some pieces of gear you cannot import, chief among those (at least for me) are magazines with fake bullets in them.

One of the first things you should do when you're all settled in is to go to a game with an Age Verifier in attendance and get them to age verify you. (bring along a piece of photo ID!) From there you will have access to the AV discussion section, the AV retailers, and the "juicy" section of the classifieds.

Welcome to Canada! Airsoft is definitely growing here ... it's bigger than it used to be a few years back but it's progressing.

Let me add a few to this ...

Rifle magazine limitations of 5, 10 for handgun.

Handguns shorter than certain length are prohibited.

Anything cool is prohibited.

Storage laws that are not clearly defined.

Restrictions on certain classes of firearms.

Negative attitude towards firearms here.

The list goes on...

All of the above and others that follow with it impact the laws towards Airsoft.

We may have it 'easier' than Australia but it certainly does not make it better or FREE.

I think all girls dig "foreign/exotic" accents.

For me it's pretty much any Eastern European accent, Irish, French, and most of the English Accents (especially RP and Queens English).

I also actually had a chance with a girl that would have otherwise been way out of my league because of my "sexy American/Canadian accent".

Well as far as I know is you can buy Airsoft Gun if they are clear and full auto airsoft guns are allowed. Importing full metal guns can be a bi... though ALSO, metal Body does not get throught the custom they will be confiscated and finally the PRICE is 1,5 to 2 the price of a gun sold in the US. It's more useful that you buy you're gun from a retailer in Canada
it's can be expensive but safe. PS a airsoft starter kit (BASIC) cost approximatively a 600$ I think (not sure though).Kindest regards THE ROOKIE

Best bet is to sell all of your stuff off before you move and just reinvest the $ when you get here. My 2 cents.
