Noisy gearbox (ICS)

Figured I'd reach out here and see if anyone has any ideas.

I've got an ICS and it's rather noisy, not getting noisier but it's been this way since day 1. So what I'm wondering is how can I lessen the gearbox noise?

My ideas were
1-Adjust motor height (no difference)
2-Check shimming (seems good, no loose movement)
3-Check gears (no teeth broken or anything)

SO, any ideas I've missed? I was wondering if maybe filing the edges of the gears to a slight bevel would help them mesh better?

Um, noisy. Well, it sounds healthy and normal just louder than most. I know it's just the nature of the beast being an AEG but it seems excessive compared to other AEG's on the field (CA, JG, KA).

Like I said I checked the shimming, now I'm no pro by any means but it all seems good. The gears spin free of the shell and each other but not loose at the same time.

Sorry should have mentioned, the upper gearbox was rebuilt when I first purchased it (had heard many ICS stories about piston problems)

-Modify ultra piston and bearing piston head
-Modify enhanced cylinder head
-bearing spring guide

So Amos could that be why it seems louder?

If you used a metal piston head possibly. I run metal piston heads in my guns and they are not as quiet as the average gun at the field. Could just be the materials are making the sound seem louder.

I would check the shimming and motor height again. are you overshimmed and thus grinding? are you properly lubricated? Do you have the proper cylinder grease?

I'll have someone better than myself check the shimming/lube to be sure. If no luck there I'll play with the motor height some more.
Shooting the gun again, it's definately not the upper gearbox that is causing the loudness I'm hearing. I can hear the piston for sure but it's a different sound.

Again define "noisy"

A few more things that mite make an AEG get louder.

Motor getting old and warn out and making it louder.
Battery getting old and warn out and having trouble turning over the motor.

Its hard to guess with out having the gun in hand to hear it for myself.

Was there a heavier spring put in.?

If so your motor may to wimpy for your setup and being over worked.

I know, this is one of the hard things to try to figure out through a message board. Motor could be a possibility I suppose(1 year old ICS 3000, maybe 6k rounds on it?), The battery is fairly new with no issues.
Spring was upgraded from a 330fps to 360fps, not much of an upgrade..

As for noisy, I just mean it sounds like most other aeg's that my team use but with more volume.

Helical gears, silent piston set and a great shim job does wonders.

my buddy Scattershot has a first gen ICS M4, they are noisy gun. with the right parts that noise can be cut down quit a bit.

ICS guns are louder in general due to the split gearbox. So in comparison to other m4s it'll be slightly louder. To get mine quieter, i put in 2 sorbo pads with a custom airbrake and a TM EG30000 motor so the only noise i hear now are the gears. Other than that, it's pretty quit now while maintaining a 400fps

Not only are ICS guns louder in general, but m4's are also louder and hard to work with unlike p90s or Augs as there's no room for any kind of foam or anything like that.

If i installed proper helical gears with a perfect shim job, i'll probably end up with the quietest ics ever...lol
