One Bag Livin'

During the last Deadfall, we inserted by a road drop at 0530 and patrolled until 1900h. We didn't fire a shot.

This time around, we spent 1900h Friday until 0600h on Saturday in a hide, then patrolled and conducted direct action until 0100h Sunday morning.

Marac gets it. When we set up the LP/OP on Friday, we ran 2hr shifts at 50%, standing to when we had major noises. You need to sleep to remain alert and at your best.

Marac, I'll take your water note under advisement. I ended up crushing about 6L the whole time but probably should've done more. Next time we may issue a water filter to one member of the crew. There were a couple sources on the field we may have been able to draw from.

Marac, come to deadfall next year! It would be good to see you again

Pack - Eberlestock Halftrack (longer duration)
Maxpedition Condor (24-36hr)

Tents - Catoma Raider (1-man tent/bivvy)
Snugpak Bunker (3 Brits or 2 Canadians plus gear)
Snugpak Ionosphere

Sleeping pads - Thermarest Neoair Xtherm
Big Agnes Q-Core
Exped Winterlite Down mat

Sleeping bags - Snugpak Softie 9 Hawk
Woods Mountaineer ultra-compact (hugely underrated)
Snugpak Jungle bag

Pillow - Marmot Cirrus ultralight
Sea to Summit Aerus Premium

Accessories - Snugpak patrol poncho
Snugpak Thermalon liner
Helinox Chair One
Sea to Summit large towel
Firesteel
Microtorch

Food - Jetboil Flash
Misc. dried foods (Backpacker Pantry, etc.)
MRE's
Various utensils, ultralight mess sets, etc.

Water - various Nalgene bottles (colour coded clear for drinkable, green for unfiltered)
MSR ceramic filter (locks onto clear bottles only)
Aquatabs

Tools - Gerber Downrange Tomahawk
Gerber compact shovel
CRKT Ultima knife
Kershaw A100 multitool (long discontinued)

Sundries - toilet paper in a dry sack.
Night vision and spare lenses for eyepro

For shorter games, the Condor carries everything (mid-summer use really) at a weight of about 22lbs with 2L of water in the pack. For longer duration (and more inclement weather, the Halftrack carries it all at a weight of about 35lbs with the Bunker, or 32lbs with the Raider.

There is lots more stuff not listed, but that is more on the navigation, fighting, comms or gear side which really has no bearing on the sustainability of life or comfort and we would be carrying those items anyways without the tactical camping side.

Regarding the water resupply issue:

I generally take a 10 gal and stash it near a natural body of water that I would have a reasonable chance of drinking from either fresh or via the water filtration I have in my pack.

When I need water I hit that and take what I could process. Satisfies the needs of the event and pushes realism.

Great thread, thanks for starting this. Might try and make it out for Deadfall next year so this most definitely will come in handy.

Bloodsport, is this what you'd use in almost freezing temps as well?

I was going to replace the Raider with the Ionosphere, but I just can't bring myself to do it. The Raider is so small and light, no good though for taller guys, it fits me snug at 5'8". No room inside for your pack, no vestibule.

My only bitch is that it is tough to get the inner tent to not sag on your legs, and you must attach the fly when staking it. You can't add the fly later without pulling out the foot pole stake and required guy lines, and redoing them. I just went with carabiners and seperate stakes for the inner and fly.

I can fit the Raider, pillow, pad, Jungle bag, 2xMREs, NV, Eyepro and 4l of water in/on the Tactical Tailor removable operator pack. Very small, very light, good for 24hr game on a controlled field.

The Raider feels flimsy though, I am tempted to order the footprint for it from Catoma. DS Tactical refuses to order it for me, as it is a non-stock item. The Snugpak tents certainly don't have that flimsy feel, but at significant weight/size costs.
