Best V2 mechbox?
I need help choosing a great (not good, great) drop-in gearbox. If you post anything, please don't be bias (I want the best, this is for my ONLY AEG),and please leave a link to the site for the gearbox.
I was think this gearbox. http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...oducts_id=2108 thanks in advance. Last edited by Wantabe_Warrior; May 10th, 2011 at 21:46.. |

That would be a decent choice, yes.

I've got one running right now. Everything in it was quite decent. I swapped out the stock piston for my own reason (it's kind of a silly build).
Shimming was pretty decent, parts/fit/function looked ok. I overheated everything () and one of the wires needed resoldering. Personally...I'd buy another (and was about to if this build blew through these gears...which it did to 3 other gear sets...but it hasn't done anything to this KA mechbox so far). |

For me, Systema is the best one. You won't regret.

If you want to buy all the parts and put it together yourself the Modify stuff is awesome. It will cost about $340 with the modular gears and about $310 with the regular gears but you'll have a solid gearbox when you're done.

Thanks for the input guys. Is the front wired one the same quality? should I upgrade/replace any of the parts out of the box?
aBseNtcell: I'd rather not build it myself (now) because my rifle is broken currently. Last edited by Wantabe_Warrior; May 9th, 2011 at 21:58.. |

It's also good to know that due to the reinforcement bars molded onto Modify Torus shells, it won't fit into some metal bodies.

The only difference in a front wired one is the wire location.

I'd say systema over king arms. They also use 3mm hex screws which are REALLY hard to strip.

Cactus mind posting/sending me a link to where you'd get yours?

The only thing with systema mechboxes is that my wallet screams after buying one. They are usually (consistently) well built. Guys have mixed impressions about their pistons sometimes. I don't know if they're really "good value" at about twice the price of some of the others. Worth an extra $40-50? Sure. Worth an extra $100-200? Not for me.
They do work well and are well built though |

Well I personally wouldn't buy one, I build all my boxes from scratch with prometheus parts lol
Try ehobby or redwolf |

I find System to be over priced and not worth the $200-$300. They are assembled very well but their parts I don't find them that good. The assembly is probably one of the best pre-built complete gearboxes out there, other than a custom one. I completely agree with Skladfin about Modify's gearboxes. They aren't complete gearboxes but if you build it yourself, you'll have one hell of a gearbox. I built an 8mm Torus gearbox with all Modify parts about 2 years ago, and I never had a problem or worry about it. Be prepared to drop about ~$350 for it.

I wouldn't personally buy the Systema. IMO they're really overpriced, and I've seen enough Systems pistons and tappet plates break after short use that I won't pay that kind of money for something that will need work shortly thereafter. I've put a lot of Systema parts in my guns, and more often than not, much cheaper parts ended up being more durable. Although I will say their mechbox shells, gears, and piston / cylinder heads are fine.
King Arms should do you well if you're looking for a preassembled unit that you won't have to mess with for a while. If building from scratch, I'd recommend Modify or Prometheus.

In regards to the fit of the Modify gearbox, I have only tried it in Classic Army and MadBull bodies but it fits awesome in both of them.
