WE M4 (416) Bolt Carrier Issue

Hey guys,

I purchased the RA Tech Steel bolt carrier w/ the aluminum air nozzle the other day. At first, cocking the was difficult but I just figured it needed to break itself in. Now it's damn near impossible. Upon further inspection, the charging handle has seemed to rub with the upper part of the frame. All the pain is gone, it's metal on metal now.

My guess is something is pushing the bolt carrier up again the charging handle with a lot of force, but either way it's not firing. Does anyone have any idea as to how to fix this?

Cheers

Are you running stock trigger group or ra-tech trigger group? you might need to mod the BCG if running ra-tech trigger set.

From experience and from advice, you should try to locktite all the screws and pins. The vibration from firing shakes everything loose and causes problems. The buffer retention pin will unscrew high enough that the BC will get caught in the buffer tube and can cause what you are seeing. Keep trying and it will get stuck to the rear. The nozzle guide will become loose and will make it hard to rack the BC. The gas key will also become loose.

Turok has a great guide on some mods to get better movement out of your bolt carrier.

You might consider removing the AL nozzle and putting it into your stock BC.

I'm currently running the stock trigger group. Everything was tightened down including the buffer retention pin. In addition I tried some of Turok's mods. Unfortunately it still gets stuck, albeit is a little more smooth in operation.

Charging handle is still unbelievably hard to pull back.

If you're using a closed bolt trigger group you have to file down part 48 - only a few mm though.

The auto-sear in the trigger box might be rubbing against the RATech bolt carrier, this is also a known issue.

Try taking out the trigger box and take out the auto-sear then pull the charging handle to see if this is the issue. OR you can check for wear on the bottom of the RATech bolt carrier caused by the auto-sear.

If this is the cause, you need to modify the auto sear a bit narrower.

Yes I had to cut a large chunk out of my bolt catch for the bolt to cycle.

Interesting. I also have tried to put in the old both carrier however, the same issue arises. Which is extremely odd because it worked perfectly before installing the RATech bolt carrier.

Completely remove the hold open catch and see how it cycles without that one part.
