Lanchester

What do you suppose would be involved in converting a sten into a Lanchester. It would be nice if a SMLE stock could be modified but I suspect it might not be big enough. Carving a new stock is not beyond my abilities. Rather involved yes, but not impossible. After that it looks mostly like cosmetic additions. The barrel shield and the brass receiver. The selector switch would be cosmetic as well. I'm quite certain I'm overlooking and over simplifying the proccess. I just think it would be really cool to have an airsoft Lanchester. After all, is there any other reason we do any of this stuff? Please feel free to tell me why or why not this would work. Discuss!

With the Lanchester being much closer to the Stirling than the Sten there would be a lot of modifications that you'd have to make, but nothing's impossible if you have the time and the talent.
If you have the money you could probably pick up some Stirling parts online that would make your life easier. I've seen some around.
You're really going to have to modify pretty much every part, so it would almost be easier just to start with a gearbox and barrel and then make your externals or franken-cobble them together from surplus and kit parts, then install the gearbox and barrel assemblies.
On the other hand, if you're just going for "good enough" and don't care if the details ar off, then you could probably do it pretty easily with the right tools.

In September I had a handmade (not by me) MP41 stock that I sold that would have been a good stock to use for a Lanchester aeg (MP28, MP41 and Lanchester stocks very similar). Fit the sten in the stock, use pvc pipe or an airsoft silencer with holes drilled in it and you'd have a 50' away looking "Lanchester".

The rest you could slowly change over time.

I just wanted to comment that i really like the idea and i love it when i see people making custom guns, i say go for it and build a gun that no one else will have.

I can't seem to find a Canadian source for a sten. Lots of US & UK sites but nothing in Canada. If anyone knows of one, could you PM me (so the kids can't see). Thanks.

There will be a Sten waiting to be unwrapped Christmas morning.
Research into the Lanchester Mk1*is proving to be fun and fruitfull.
Wood for a 'built from scratch' Lanchester stock has been locally sourced. A good sized library of photos has been collected. A few original parts have been found; trigger guard and brass buttplate for example (just have to order them).
Some metal parts are going to be wood or plastic to start with until I learn the ways of metal (the sights, fore & aft, bayonet lug).

I've found someone locally who has a genuine Lanchester. I just have to arrange to meet in order to measure the hell out of it and photograph details. Once I make up shop drawings and design a couple jigs I'll be able to start building.
