"Blueing" ABS plastic

I have a couple of ABS plastic pistols and SMG's that I'm looking at making a little more attractive for props as well as using for airsoft.

Now I'm fully aware of using blueing chemicals on ABS but I'm looking for what others have done and used to give their guns that nice blued finish.

Thanks.

PS, don't be afraid to post pics!

don't think you can. the plastic on the guns are usually finished in an anti reflective texture and won't give the desired look.

Cool blueing plastic

It may be possible to use a method of warming a clear and very thin viscosity oil, then you would have to add a blueing dye..if that is the color you,re after, try it on a sample/trial piece first..bets idea i can come up with,,goodluck

Alright, this is something i've tried before. You can't use bluing chemicals on plastic, very bad idea as some might fuck up the plastic.

What you can do is get a krylon flat black/camouflage black paint and do a PROPER coating on the thing. Once its all done and finished, use a very fine sandpaper very LIGHTLY on its surface to smooth out the surface of the paint, and then use very fine steel wool to further polish it.

I've done simulated 'metal' finishes for guys locally.

G&G AK I had done. The receiver was originally clear, I matched the paint to the rest of the gun via the method above.

Heres a gun I did a simulated 'pitted steel' look. Sold this to a guy on ASC, dunno where its lingering nowadays.

(Yes, thats an accordion.)

If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer!

Thanks Strelok, that look on the MP7 is pretty much what I am going after. Any extra tips? Did you first do a silver undercoat before hitting it with black?

Another method of getting the metallic finish is to paint matt black, then apply ground up pencil lead(graphite dust). I rubbed it on with my finger, then gave it some clear coat to seal the pencil dust on. I think it turned out pretty good.

Just throwing another option out there.
