Bug spray of choice

Now that the bugs are starting to come out - I'm curious what people use for repellent. There was an old thread from 2005, but I figured there may be some new products on the market now.

I heard things about anything DEET damaging guns and finishes.

Any recommendations from sprays, to vitamins, to natural products are welcome

Human skin and some Dealwithit. Actually you live in Oakville, so you probably have some nasty bugs out there.

I've always just gotten little bottles of Off! to carry around with me

Amway made the best bug repellant I've ever used, but I never see it anymore. Didn't stink like regular bug spray and I don't THINK it dissolved everything it touched.

Here in Manitoba, I generally use something like Deep Woods Off, or something along those lines.

My cousin had a bottle of concentraded premethrin(50%) . He soaked it into his camp gear, was very effective and took a long time to wash away. Careful using that around cats, suppose to be toxic to them.

There are thiamin patches but theu require you to sweat quite a bit. They also make you sell pretty bad.

I personally use 30% deet versions of Muskol or Off deep woods. The new Off clip ons work well too but not great if you're moving around quickly.

! On mobile; sorry for any spelling mistakes or autocorrects!

I just need some 30-40% DEET that don't dissolve my watch (Casio DW9052) and don't have horrible amount of scent add to it... Yet to find one.

NATO insect repellent, fairly odourless (very faint smell) and pretty effective. It's 28.5% DEET. NSN: 6840-20-000-6979

Also, 3M makes this Ultrathon insect repellent which is supposed to be pretty good, not sure if you can find it in Canada though.

I would imagine that the new off! fans work pretty well, plus they can clip onto molle!

Bug Spray, Schmug Spray. Keeping my blood alcohol level above 0.15 wards off them pesky mosquitoes, horse flies, bees, depth perception, reasoning, etc.

Use it when we fish up north. Can wear mosquitos like a sweater if you use enough. Feel nothing.

Have to check the brand, but I usually stick a few dryer sheets here and there on me. Works pretty well for a few hours, cheap and handy.

Other then that, usually carry a little bit of "Off Deep woods" with me.

Everybody will know it's you, the bug will still be around you, but none will touch you. I use it all the time, keeps all kinds of bugs off you and is safe on plastics.

And muskol

The higher the DEET amount the better

Edit: I should've added "or so I was told by hardcore outdoor so-called specialists"

If you don't mind risking irritation and possibly some chemical related death, the military bug juice wards off most things I've ever seen.
