NICE WORK!
Unfortunately, that pretty much goes for almost any custom airsoft gun... lol

That is truely awesome. At first I really didn't like the EBR too much, but this has definetly changed my opinion. Great work.

The real steel EBR's plastic handguard is not installed the same way ILlusion's is.

How is it attached?

On mine, it's attached by 3 bolts at the bottom, attaching to a rail that runs along the bottom of the handguard.

I believe the chassis shown in that image is of Sage's original EBR design that has been discontinued.

The G&P mk14 mod0 conversion kit which I used, is a replica of the current Sage rifle chassis design, which is shorter and easier handling than the original full sized Sage EBR.

The current SEI Crazy Horse design uses the shorter "ChopMod" style rifle chassis.

Here's some pictures of the real deal Smith Enterprise, Inc. M14SE "Crazy Horse" SDM, just so you have an idea of how close I got my replica (the first image is what I based the build off of):

Pictures linked from the Smith Enterprise site: http://www.smithenterprise.com

Here's some trivia:

Above the rear pistol grip, behind the receiver, you'll notice a set of rails located there. Any idea what those rails are for or what could be mounted there? My only guess is to attach RIS-mounted sling mounts... agree? disagree?

Hot shitz! It's looking mighty good Brian. Might just have to get one for Christmas if I can wait that long.

I do believe that the rail on top of the sliding stock housing is used for NVs with a special high mount . I've seen a pic of this before but can't remember which forums I saw it in.

After doing some thinking about the timeline, I'm back to being uber-happy about this gun:

The first image that I originally showed of the real steel versions was the first image that SEI released of one of their projects. This used the old Sage EBR at that time, which was a larger EBR - it's the same one shown in Metro's image. It also incorporated that older style ring-type front sight at the time.

Sage, Inc. then released the "ChopMod" version of the rifle chassis and dropped the older, larger, heavier & bulkier design. The revised chassis was shorter and balanced out the gun much better. Smith Enterprises, in conjunction with Sage, integrated the new chassis in to the SEI product. The old SEI Crazy Horse image was removed from the site some time in 2006 or perhaps early 2007.

Smith Enterprise had also picked up tritium bar combat front sights, which they further began to integrate in to their flagship product.

Once integrated in to a product sample, a new photo was taken, which is the second photo I showed - I've since removed the original first photo and put the modern image as the first image. I noticed this image was posted on the SE site some time earlier this year.

On closer inspection of that tiny resolution image, you can see that the current Crazy Horse configuration uses the newer "ChopMod" length chassis, as well as the tritium glow sight... and so, my replica is being back to being a very close replica.

On that note... I think I may have to get me one of these tritium glow sights to put on my replica... pwuahahaha
