Won't work.
If you read the label on the top of your tank, is says that all tanks must have a shut-off valve in case some LIQUID propane would try to go into you BBQ to comply with some regulation...
If you have a 10years old tank... then maybe it could work... but corrosion would make me think about it twice before filling it...
