To me it sounds like the piston is returning to the front of the gearbox, it is possible that your ARL is out of place or that the latch is in place but your spring is not.

I've never heard of a clear Mnub unless you're talking about the actual HS5 rhop patch which is a clear bluish colour.

If you sand down the nozzle it will not be long enough to create a tight seal on the bucking. What you need is a shorter tapped plate, I believe some of those Lonex ones are 1 or 2 mm too long.
