Balaclava help protect?

Does Balaclava help protect against bbs at all? or is it just for camo and thats all?

Syn January 30th, 2008 17:27

bbs in the face still hurt as if you were not wearing one.

Manaconda January 30th, 2008 17:27

it's easier to find your teeth is all.

Spa January 30th, 2008 17:32

usually when you wear a belaclava they help disribute the bbs force so it doesnt leave much of a mark. if you get something cold on it right away you wont get a mark at all.

Tape some sheets of cardboard, and Styrofoam to your face with duct tape.

+1 ive seen some horrible teeth incidents

do you guys actually think it's worth wearing full-face protection for most games? What do you reckon the likelyhood is of losing a tooth?

The Saint January 30th, 2008 17:52

If it's skin tight, it won't help that much other than to protect really vulnerable areas like ear lobs, ear canal, etc. If it's slack, the protection is a little more as the BBs have to push against that slack first and loose energy in the process.

You can't aim with most longarms if you wear full-face protection.

in before armyissue guys pic of his smashed up tooth.

super_six_four January 30th, 2008 17:59

one of our guys got a bb up the nose and it bled like hell

acorn_giblet January 30th, 2008 18:10

hmmm... maybe trying to remember to keep my mouth closed is the best protection...

I do have a paintball mask that I got with my goggles but even with a red-dot sight aiming is a pain. I think I'll keep going as I have been...

I have one of these:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/NEOPRENE-FACE-MAS...QQcmdZViewItem

It's thick enough neoprene that it should help prevent BBs from leaving facial marks and help protect teeth.

Just remember to give the person thats shooting you something else than you head to shoot at. Most of the time when i see people getting shot in the face is when its the only visible part of their body.

acorn_giblet January 30th, 2008 18:36

that's actually a really good idea! decent camo too... I imagine it would be way too hot in warm weather though.

Crunchmeister January 30th, 2008 18:56

I wear a similar neoprene mask when skiing in cold weather. This one is thinner, so hopefully cooler. I'll more than likely wear it at a game on March 22 and I'll see how it works out then. But for summer, I can imagine that thing would be sweat-drenched in no time. I'll have to see how well it works.

But I figure MARPAT was pretty good. Should blend in with my CADPAT loadout really well.
