Need some help on a Systema PTW project. Need info on a Madbull Daniel Defense rail barrel nut.

I'm putting together a Daniel Defense URG based Systema PTW for a friend. I need a little bit of info and was hoping someone from AC might be able to help me.

I have taken a real steel Daniel Defense upper receiver and had it machined it to accommodate the Systema PTW cylinder and gearbox. I also have a real steel Daniel Defense barrel nut. This nut is used on any of the .223/5.56 Omega-X, Lite Rails or RIS II rails.

Now what I'm hoping to do here is use a Madbull Omega-X rail system to complete the project due to funding issues. Being that the rail clamps OVER the barrel nut, I need to know the outside dimensions of the Madbull barrel nut so I will know if the rail will fit.

I need to know the O.D. and how tall it is, front to back if that makes sense. I don't want to order the rail from Hong Kong, wait a month only to find out that it will not fit over the real steel barrel nut.

I've tried asking wholesalers and retailers whom I might consider buying it from and they seem clueless or unwilling to help.

I don't suppose any of you more tech savy guys who owns either a Madbull Omega-X, Lite Rail or RIS II can get me some measurements can you?

Thanks! :)

Taken from my Madbull MkII ris. I believe they use the same barrel nut

Not to be a smart ass, but it looks like you are exerting way more force then you need, on your vernier.

Don't get me wrong, you're helping the OP out. Just seeing your thumb all dented and white makes me want to comment.

That Systema is crying for REAL STEAL...why bother doing a upper receiver and cutting down on the rest...

Save up and get a real rail...there is no substitute

And it is way cheaper for you since you are in the US !!!

Just an Idea... If your trying to save money, try using the barrel nut from the Madbull rail and not the RS one...

RS rails fit PTW uppers. Most madbull rails fit PTW uppers with little to no modding required. Thus, the madbull rail assembly should work on your RS upper, including the barrel nut?

I realize that I am putting a fair amount of pressure on the tool, but I didnt have the space or the tools to properly vice or table the upper receiver and hold onto the camera, get a good angle of the barrel nut on the gun and with a clear shot of the tool. Should be close enough to get it done.

Thank you sir! Yes, the RIS II, Omega-X and Lite Rail all use the same barrel nuts.

I'll have to compare tonight.

It's even cheaper because I'm a Authorized Daniel Defense dealer here in the US. We are not trying to be cheap, it's simply not needed on an Airsoft gun. I could see if this was a real gun going into combat that needed a PEQ-15, tactical light, IR emitter, vertical grip etc where you needed a rock solid quality mounting solution but it's going into an Airsoft game! :)

That said, I've already jacked up one Madbull barrel nut. I was installing it with a barrel nut wrench and it popped loose and seared a chunk out of the side of the barrel nut. The metal these are made of isn't exactly "high quality". The PTW barrel is solid steel and has some weight to it. I wouldn't want it breaking loose if it was whacked really hard against something. It's a pretty small mounting surface when you look at it. Just a little thin ring of metal is holding the barrel in place.

As far as spending the money on the real steel upper and the CNC 7075-T6 lower, those are a strength issue. The PTW factory lowers are weak. They like to break right at the barrel nut as well as at the stock tube. Fall on one of them or give it a good enough whack and SNAP! I've got a box with maybe a dozen broken uppers and lowers from customers who sent in there guns to have real steel uppers and CNC machined lowers installed for exactly this reason.

That said, Madbull actually uses decent quality Aluminum for there rails. Not the same as the real rails but comparatively speaking, the aluminum used on a Madbull rail is better in quality then say the crap Systema is using on there factory PTW upper and lower receivers. Again my concern is that barrel nut. It's a thin part to begin with and it was not designed to be mounted on such a heavy steel barrel on a gun that is going to be abused like a real M4.

Real steel Daniel Defense RIS II, Omega-X or Lite Rail barrel nut:

Width = 1.361
Height = 0.579

Consistently.

I can work with that. That is close enough that it might just work without fitment. Worst case I take 0.070+- off with the back end with the bench mill. Looks like it's just a tad too tall/thick..? Might not matter. I was more worried about the width. Can't really take any off the width and I'm not setup to do any work on the rounded angles.

Thanks, this was exactly what I needed to know!

Hell, maybe I should order a couple Madbull Daniel Defense rails and throw one on my dedicated CMMG .22LR AR-15! I've got a couple real Daniel Defense M4's in 5.56x45mm and .300 Blackout too, but I can't justify spending $350~400.00 dollars for a rail on a .22LR AR. Hmmm! :)
