Milsim Gear

Going to my first Milsim, MSWest Flashpoint Astana as NATO. Need advice on what to wear.

Definitely wear pants.

+1 for pants. I'd even try socks.

Do not listen to these guys. You do not need pants.

What I'd recommend is a tactical kilt, it allows for superior airflow while still maintaining the protective qualities of pants.

Honestly follow the Milsim West TACSOP.

Tactical kilt is the way to go. Nothing else compares.

In all seriousness, it always depends on the mission. I can respond in general and, for more specific information, you'll want to find a thread dedicated specifically to milsim gear, or get a lot more specific (what event, what team, what gear do you have that we can work with, are you going to go out and buy all new stuff, if so what's your budget? etc.).

Usually you will wear a uniform from your team / factions of colors. So if we take the Russian Forces as an example, you will probably use something like EMR or Flecktarn and will carry an AK. You will want to have a backpack with hydration, be it a hydration bladder, or extra water, you MUST have water. So, of course, you need your primary, secondary weapon. Possibly backups for both. Ammo, magazines, propellant (batteries, gas, CO2, HPA tank, whatever your gun needs), you will need cleaning tools in case something breaks. An exchange of socks and underwear because you'll be happy to have them. And camping supplies if you're going for a milsim at night.

Go naked

So the consensus is no pants, got it.

In all seriousness, how important is is that my gun replicates the look of the real thing in service? If I'm on the US team or NATO, I'm not sure if my VFC Avalon fits the bill since it's an Airsoft specific gun and not a colt, daniel defense, etc.

but honestly you should do a big bad ironclad type of thing, you look bada$$ while efficient. also, what loadout do you have? if your not going use suggestion
your loadout could help you pick out what your going to where. for example, i have a glock 17 and an HK MP7.

unless you're going to one of the few hyper specific realism games, that's not going to matter.
